I love being able to showcase art in my home. Whether it’s a neat photograph framed on my walls, or fun designs featured on items throughout my house. When I was introduced to Marc Jaffe from Love is a Pillow, I was excited to be able to learn more about his process of turning his beautiful art into fun pillows.
I had the pleasure of spending a morning with Marc at his studio space in White Plains, NY. While there, I was able to see all his latest creations. Just looking at these pillows I could see the quality of his work, and being able to hold them and feel them was just an extraordinary experience. Marc takes great care in creating each piece, and he makes sure that every little detail is just perfect before he’s ready to sell. I love the weight of these pieces – they are certainly not your average pillow that you would get from a big box store. The ultra-suede backing of the pillows is soft and luxurious. I wish there was a way for you all to reach in and touch these pillows – then you would truly understand how wonderful they really are. Marc uses a technique called “altered reality” in his designs. He takes one of his photographs and tweaks it to the point where you might be able to make out certain images, but everything else is soft and blurred and beautiful, and really very unique. There are so many great patterns on Marc’s site to choose from.
When I first started browsing the Love is a Pillow site, I was drawn to his Playland Park 20×20 pillow. I grew up near Playland Park and have a lot of wonderful memories of times spent there. I love the color scheme of the pillow, and especially the crimson backing. My plan for this pillow is to have it as the centerpiece of our new playroom that we’re creating in our finished basement. The colors are fun and lively, and the perfect compliment to a fun space. What I find really neat is the aspect of having a piece of art in my home that’s as functional as it is nice to look at. When I held this pillow in my arms and gave it a good squeeze, I knew that my boys would love having this pillow to cuddle up with. This 20×20 pillow sells for $79.99 on the Love is a Pillow site. As I left Marc’s studio, he invited me to take a few 4″ mini pillows that he had on hand. I choose two for my boys who just think they are the cutest little pillows for their stuffed animals, and I choose one design for me that I particularly love and at Marc’s suggestion I’m using it as a wrist pillow with my computer. These adorable little mini pillows sell for $10 each. Being an artist, Marc charges more than you would pay at a generic store or site, but keep in mind that you are getting a hand-sewn creation of exceptional quality.
Marc is a man of many trades. He’s an artist, IT professional, web designer, and photographer. His passion for his art is evident in his work and he’s excited to build his brand and help us all “get the art off the walls!” with his pillow creations. I feel privileged to have been able to meet Marc in person, and I guarantee you will be just as impressed with his work as I am when you get one of these pillows delivered to your home. They would make fantastic holiday gifts, birthday presents, a fun going away gift for a college student decorating their dorm, or even for a housewarming gift – everyone loves something unique, fun, and functional!
Through the month of August, Marc is running a special on his site – buy any pillow and receive a 4″ mini pillow free!
