Book Review | Eyewitness Hurricane & Tornado
Author: Jack Challoner
About the Book:
Eyewitness: Hurricane & Tornado is a compelling guide to nature’s most dangerous and destructive forces. Striking images, models and illustrations offer a unique view of catastrophic weather conditions allowing readers to see into the eye of a cyclone, witness hailstones the size of tennis balls, and learn how a gentle mountain stream can become a raging surge within a few minutes. Learn the techniques developed through the centuries to forecast weather, see a chicken that was stripped of its feathers by a tornado, and how human activity can cause weather patterns to change.

I had a chance to check out Eyewitness Hurricane & Tornado. I selected the book for my nine-year-old daughter, Bridget, but I’m equally fascinated with weather and wanted to read it myself. I’ve been having a recurring dream (more like a nightmare) about tornadoes. I’m always in the direct path of one and it’s coming for me. I’ve never even experienced a tornado (knock on wood) so I’m not sure why I dream the same thing over and over again. It’s been happening for at least 15+ years! Anyways, it’s a subject I’m interested in and thought Bridget might like to learn the science behind severe weather.
Eyewitness Hurricane & Tornado is much more than just these two types of storms. It has the science explained in a kid way with images, diagrams and easy to understand text. It features all kinds of weather like thunder storms, lightning strikes, hail storms, snowstorms, droughts and more. I found it interesting to read the weather folklore at the beginning of the book and find out some of the extreme weather that can occur beyond earth! Bridget liked looking at the pictures and asked me questions about some of the things she read.
I’d be interested in buying her more DK Eyewitness books. I personally want to read the one titled Cats.
Watch for more titles in the Eyewitness series coming soon!
