DIY Family Memories Cookbook

I often ask myself where does time go? My oldest daughter, Olivia, turns 16 this month and will be going away to school in two short years. It doesn’t seem like that long ago when she was going to school for the first time and learning how to ride a bike. Now that she is a teenager, I’m trying to teach her important life skills so she can become a confident and self-reliant young woman. She’s a good kid and the process hasn’t been that hard at all. Olivia is willing to learn and has the desire to succeed in whatever task she does.

Cooking is one of Olivia’s passions and she enjoys preparing delicious meals for our family. She’ll scour cookbooks and Pinterest to find the perfect recipe to make. She’s even come up with a few of her own creations. Where did my picky little girl go? She’s definitely becoming an adventurous cook!

Canon USA recently sent us the Canon PIXMA MG7120 Wireless Inkjet photo all-in-one printer and I knew exactly what project I was going to make first: a Family Memories Cookbook! With Olivia leaving the nest in two years for school, I wanted to compile a cookbook filled with tried-and-true family recipes. This way she’ll be able to make recipes loved by our family members. If she is homesick, she can whip up a batch of Grandma June’s Hurry Chicken or Auntie Lori’s Honey Glazed Pork Tenderloin and be reminded of home and the people who love her.

I reached out to my family members via Facebook and told them about the cookbook project I had planned. I asked them if they were interested in sharing a favorite recipe to include in Olivia’s cookbook. My request was met with lots of enthusiasm! Within two days, I had already compiled 10 recipes to include in my cookbook and more messages were coming in daily. Olivia was very excited to see all the new recipes and told me I was the “best mom ever” for coming up with the idea.

Creating our Family Memories Cookbook was actually quite easy! I found a free cookbook template for Word online. It had a layout for the title page, table of contents, recipes, and index and all I had to do was copy the recipes into the template. Olivia’s Family Cookbook was born! I noted on each recipe who it was from. I also included a heartfelt introduction at the beginning of the cookbook expressing how proud I was of her and how I hope she enjoys the recipes from our family. It was a cookbook created with love.

I created the cookbook on my laptop and printed it wirelessly to my new Canon PIXMA MG7120. Can I just quickly say how much I love wireless printing? It makes my life so much easier to print from any device to our home printer! With my Canon PIXMA MG7120, I can print from anywhere to anywhere in minutes!

After it printed, it was just a matter of using a three-hole punch to make some holes and adding it to a binder. I wanted to use a binder so I can continue to add recipes over the next two years. Now that I have the template and an awesome printer, I can easily continue on with this fun project. Plus, I’m still getting recipes sent to me. Did I mention we have a big family?

I included a few of my own favorite recipes including my Broccoli Casserole and Greek Pasta Salad. To give the cookbook a more authentic feel, I included images of the recipes I made in the pages of the cookbook. These ones are keepers!

Olivia’s face lit up when I presented her with her new cookbook. She immediately opened it up to check out the recipes and remarked what a nice, thoughtful gift it was. Her Family Memories Cookbook will be something she can keep with her always and continue to add her own recipes to it as time goes on.

As I mentioned above, I used the Canon PIXMA MG7120 to create Olivia’s cookbook and was impressed with the high quality printing and how effortless it is to use. The Canon PIXMA MG7120 is the most versatile printer I’ve owned. I can use it to print my photos, print on CDs and DVDs and edit my images right on the Touchscreen LCD. It’s simple, computer-free printing. I had no idea that even existed until trying out my new printer.

However, one of the coolest features that you need to know about is the PIXMA Printing Solutions (PPS) which allows you to print from anywhere to anywhere! You can print and scan photos or documents from your mobile device with PIXMA Cloud App. You’ll be able to print from popular social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and more. What’s even cooler is that you don’t need to be on the same network to print from your mobile device. If you’re traveling, print a selfie for your kids and spouse to your PIXMA at home to let them know you are thinking of them.

You can also print documents from storage sites like Dropbox and Evernote from anywhere to your printer at home. The PIXMA Cloud App is compatible with Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox, Evernote, Picasa, Photobucket, Canon Image Gateway and Canon Creative Park.

Using the PIXMA Cloud App is a breeze. After you have set up your printer at home, simply download the app through iTunes to your mobile device. Then it’s just a matter of choosing an image or document from your preferred platform like Facebook, Dropbox, or your camera’s photo album. Select the items you want to print and witness the magic of wireless printing! It’s the perfect solution for printing the photos on my iPhone.

My mind is brimming with ideas of fun ways to use the Canon PIXMA MG7120 and take advantage of all its neat features. What would you make first?
