We have a weekly Family Movie Night in our home and it can be a challenge to find wholesome movies that are appealing to the entire family. I couldn’t wait to watch Mercy Rule with my husband and children because this feature film starring Kirk Cameron and his real-life wife, Chelsea Cameron looked like a “home run”……and it didn’t disappoint.
Mercy Rule draws upon Kirk Cameron’s real life faith in this inspirational film that I found to be a fun and exciting entertainment. My six year old son loves baseball so he was particularly excited to watch this movie as the story centers around a family whose young son, Cody is on a baseball team, the Pirates. As John Miller fights to keep his business alive against adversity while also teaching his son about the importance of working as a team player through a series of life lessons.
While I have come to expect a great performance from Kirk Cameron (he delivered as usual), I was most impressed with Jared Miller who plays young Cody in a way that comes across as authentic and real. There is nothing in the G rated film that I found questionable for my children who are ages 6, 7 and 9 and love that it has valuable lessons about love, the importance of family, faith, patience and mercy. While my children enjoyed the baseball plot, my husband and I were drawn to the storyline revolving around the possibility of John Miller losing the family business. I also appreciated that his wife is supportive in the film expressing verbally and through her actions that the family would still love him even if the business fails. I find this to be such a real-life issue that all too many families will unfortunately be able to relate to in their real lives which makes this movie that much more authentic in my opinion.
I highly recommend Mercy Rule as a movie to be viewed together by the entire family. You can learn more about it by visiting the Mercy Rule website and check out buying a digital copy. You can also purchase Mercy Rule online at FamilyChristian.com on DVD for the SRP of $14.99.
