Insight Kids Publishing has an art book title that my nine year old artist has declared “extraordinary”! The Interactive Art Book (SRP $27.99) by Ron Van Der Meer is unlike any other art book in his collection and has become his favorite treasure. It features seven subjects including How Art is Made, Picturing Reality, Light and Color, Movement, Pattern and Composition, Stories and Puzzles and Style and Subject. Showcasing 60 art masterpieces by artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Umberto Boccioni and Hans Christian Andersen, this art book for children (and adults) was designed to make art relatable and understandable for those who wish to further appreciate art.
My son was very excited to explore the 25 lift-the-flap activities. There are also 12 gorgeous three-dimensional models which helps to bring works of art “to life”. Adam loved learning about “Mobile” by Alexander Calder and the activity included in this book which features an interactive mobile using five shapes which can be balanced on top of the stand and actually move when gently blown upon. Other interactive activities that my son enjoyed were coloring mixing disks and the 3-D Puzzle Picture which changes when opening and closing each eye while wearing the 3-D glasses. These are just a few examples of the many interactive experiences in The Interactive Art Book.
The first time that my son began reading this book during his art class, I had allotted a 30 minute time block. One hour later (flexibility is the beauty of homeschooling), Adam was still engrossed in this book and has been reading it daily ever since, even in his free time. He likes to explore one of the areas such as composition and then enjoys telling us about what he has learned. We were very impressed to discover that this book also includes a separate book, the Interactive Art Activity Book which lets Adam complete his own hands on activities including works of composition, printmaking, collage, sculpture and movement.
If you have an aspiring artist like my son, then we both highly recommend The Interactive Art Book which is available from Insight Kids Publishing. You are invited to visit Insight Editions to purchase this book and browse the entire selection of book titles for children and adults.
