8 Quick & Easy Spring Cleaning Tips

Believe it or not, I actually enjoy cleaning my house. I’m sure I can’t be the only one out there who finds cleaning relaxing? I think there’s just something about having everything fresh, shiny and stowed away. A place for everything and everything in its place or so they say. It’s just so much better to wake up to a clean home and I don’t have to worry if people stop by unexpectedly. I always feel embarrassed if my house is a mess when company pops over!

My Spring Cleaning is pretty much done. I’m on the last stretch right now doing some yard work. Our Spring garbage pick up is coming up soon so I wanted to get rid of all our old junk. With my renovations complete, my home has never looked better.
Arm & Hammer has some Spring cleaning tips to help make the process easier and maybe even I dare say enjoyable?!
1. Make a list. Compile a list of every room in your house making sure you don’t miss the often forgotten about rooms like the laundry room, garage or pantry. For each room, write down cleaning tasks and then you can feel accomplished as you cross the tasks off your list as you complete them.
2. Work from top down, inside to outside. This way you won’t dirty the rooms you just finished cleaning.
3. Save money by washing your clothes, towels, comforters, etc in cold water. You can use a detergent specifically formulated for cold water washes like ARM & HAMMER Coldwater Laundry Detergent. It will get out the dirt and gross smells even with cold water washing. I also get out the warmer weather clothes and jackets from storage and give them a wash to freshen them up.
4. Set aside enough time to clean one room or at least an area of one room. This way you’ll have the satisfaction of seeing one room from start to finish. Seeing the progress helps you to keep going!
5. Freshen up your fridge. Baking soda is very powerful, effective and versatile cleaner. Add a box of ARM & Hammer Fridge Fresh to the inside of your fridge to help eliminate odours and help foods taste fresher longer. Remember to change it every three months. An easy way to remember is to change it at the start of each new season.
6. Shine up your kitchen counters with baking soda. It’s a natural and food-safe surface cleanser. Just sprinkle it on a damp sponge or cloth to wipe surfaces clean.
7. Restore shine to your sterling silver and silver plate serving pieces with baking soda. Mine get dusty and dull in their cabinet since they are not used everyday. You can clean them by making a baking soda paste. Add 2 parts ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda to 1 part water. Rub the paste onto the silver with a clean cloth or sponge till the tarnish disappears. Then rinse and dry and watch them sparkle and glean!
8. Spruce up your patio furniture with baking soda. You can keep your outdoor furniture looking great with baking soda and water. Also add a little baking soda under the cushions to give it a burst of freshness.

I love having my house clean, organized, and smelling nice. It just puts me in a good mood. As you mentioned, I don’t feel embarrassed when people drop by(this was always a problem in the past but now I’m making a real effort to keep up with chores and my daughter loves to help). Even with expected guests, prep time is that much easier. My major stumbling block is hubby with his general sloppiness and hoarding tendencies. Our surfaces are covered with his job paperwork and electronic gadgets and God forbid something should be moved!
Baking soda is just so useful. And working from the top down absolutely helps make things easier…it’s been my routine for years. I hate clutter, so I’m constantly organizing so as to not accumulate too much.
I enjoy cleaning the house also, it gives me a boost when I look around and the house looks good, now if I could only train the rest of the family to feel the same way!
Great tips, thanks for the reminder of a n almost endless possibilities of baking soda. Time to clean
Awesome tips, thanks so much for sharing. I do a few of these so YAY ME lol
Love the cleaning tips, now I just need to get stared on my spring cleaning
I will take any cleaning tips anyone has! Thank you so much.
Such great ideas!!!!
thanks for a great list. I actually enjoy cleaning windows best, I love it when they sparkle.
I use a bucket of warm water with vinegar added, and a squeegie which has a cloth part on one side. Onto the cushion of the squeegie I add a few drops of dish detergent, splash with the water/vinegar from the bucket and off I go. Using the squeegie I ‘scrape’ the dirty water from the window and then use a window leather to remove any hint of streaks.
I like to keep my house clean, but I’m not a super cleaner, I guess you could call me a surface cleaner, it looks clean when you come into my home but I only pull everything away from the walls and do under the furniture twice a year
I love having a clean house but I just find cleaning so never ending. There is always more to be done!
Great tips! So true about doing it top to bottom. Have you ever started dusting only to realize that you forgot the top shelf….now, to do all over. Often we forget the places that are above eye level. My stepdad ‘s pet peeve is the top corners of a room so I always make sure to clean those first before he comes. Also, setting aside enough time to finish a job or corner is important. It brings a feeling of satisfaction and self-esteem plus often keeps you motivated to do more just like checking off an item from a list. I can’t say I like to clean and I’m not a super tidy person, but I want a clean house. With that said, if you ever need some extra fun, feel free to clean mine. 🙂
Thanks for the tips! It is a bit easier when you break the cleaning up into steps, rather than being overwhelmed by the mess. While I can’t say I enjoy the cleaning itself, the end result is so nice. I usually put on some upbeat music or a podcast and it helps motivate me.
I dread spring cleaning! These are great suggestions, though, it may help the work seem less tedious!
I like house cleaning also; a good sense of accomplishment! Use 1-2 cups of water with 1-2 tblsp of vinegar in your microwave for 5 minutes to get it sparking clean! Add a few drops lemon juice of essential oil if desired!
Baking soda and white vinegar, my 2 main staple for cleaning just about everything!
I’m jealous of people who love cleaning. I really wish I was. I’m more of a garden and yardwork type. I like the tips though.
