With the weather getting nicer by the day, we’re spending more time outside as a family on the weekends. My oldest, Matthew, is very excited to get back to riding his bike, and my little guy Noah wants to follow right in big brother’s footsteps. Noah is not yet three, and is nowhere near ready for a big boy bike. But we’re excited that he wants to learn to ride, and we want to be able to include him in family bike rides. The solution, the smarTrike – trikes made to grow with your child from six months to three years plus!

We received a Boutique 4-in-1 tricycle from smarTrike for review in a black and white design. This particular trike comes complete with accessories for four stages of growth – from creating a stroller-like ride for a child as young as 10 months, to a more traditional tricycle for kids 30 months and up. We decided that Noah would be a good fit for the 24+ month stage which would allow him to steer and pedal but still give my husband or I ultimate control. The assembly instructions were easy enough that my husband was able to complete the set-up pretty quickly. Noah was extremely excited to have his very own bike and wanted to get outside with it as soon as possible! We buckled him in, placed his feet on the pedals, and took a nice slow walk up the street as he got used to the feeling of pedaling and steering. He needs some serious practice time, but that’s what’s great about this trike – he can take all the time he needs, and when he’s ready for it, we’ll make the change to the traditional tricycle for him. I like that this bike is sturdy and secure, and I really like that Noah feels safe and comfortable in it. He’s really enjoying the learning process in this stage of the trike. The trike is easy to maneuver and lightweight enough that I am able to lift it with one arm up our front stairs. The steering handle height is adjustable making it easy for shorter or taller adults, and at its shortest it makes it easy to get in and out of the trunk of my car. Bonus for the adults – their are two different storage bags on this trike, one at the top of the steering handle that can carry some of your smaller essentials, and a larger bag at the bag of the steering handle and seat that can accommodate larger items such as favorite toys, snacks, a change of clothes, etc. Bonus for the little guys, there’s a cute play phone attached to their steering mechanism as well as a bottle holder perfect for holding a sippy sup or bottle of water. In the US this trike sells for $149.99 online and in-store at Toys R Us.
