Winnie the Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack Review

This charming 64-minute long film opens on Christmas Eve as Winnie the Pooh brings in a Christmas tree and prepares to have the entire gang over for tree trimming and holiday festivities. Piglet is the first to arrive just as Pooh bear is showing off Piglet’s present to the narrator. Soon Tigger, Rabbit, and all of the others arrive. They reminisce about a past Christmas when their letters to Santa were almost lost! For the New Year portion, the friends recall a time when Rabbit became so sick of his friends that he decided to leave. Pooh bear and the rest of the gang decide to make a New Year’s Resolution: to change so that Rabbit will want to be around them again.

There are two messages that really stood out to me while I watched the movie: Santa and presents are not the true meaning of Christmas, and we should learn to appreciate others for their uniqueness rather than expecting them to change themselves to make us happy. Younger kids may not pick up on these life lessons, but adults should be able to recognize them and perhaps use this adorable holiday film as a teaching moment. My five-year-old daughter loves the Winnie the Pooh characters and sat glued to the television watching the festivities and laughing at the silliness of the characters. I never grow tired of watching these characters myself, and have loved sharing their continuing stories with my daughter.
