Scents of the Holidays Past and Present #suavescents

The holidays have always been my favourite time of year. When I was a child I used to get so excited on Christmas Eve that I could hardly stand it. My cousin and I would phone each other every hour to do a countdown to Christmas. We always had huge family dinners with my aunts, uncles, cousins and my Grandma June. Us kids would spend time in the family room dancing, singing on my dad’s microphone and playing games. Upstairs my mom, grandma and aunts would spend time in the kitchen preparing a delicious meal. The Christmas lights on the tree would be twinkling and my mom’s festive potpourri would fill the air with a spicy scent. Another tradition was to head out on the snowmobile trails for a invigorating winter ride. There’s nothing like the cold, fresh winter air blasting on your face and it was always exhilarating to go down the trails at what seemed like lightning speed.
They say that scent is one of the strongest senses we have and can invoke memories. I know this to be true. When I smell pumpkin pie, I’m always reminded of those family Christmas dinners. Cinnamon reminds me of my mom’s holiday potpourri she had placed all over the house. On a crisp, cold day, the fresh winter air brings me back to those family snowmobiling rides.
My Grandma June lived out of town and she normally stayed at our house for a few days over the holidays. She always took such good care of herself making sure her hair was perfectly coiffed and clothes neat and tidy. She also always smelled really good! She gave the best hugs and I remember holding her tight and inhaling her floral scent. I miss her so much and flowery scents often trigger those warm memories of her.
Now that I’m older and have a family of my own, I still incorporate some of these holiday traditions from my past. I still make pumpkin pie as one of our desserts for our dinner (though it’s never as good as my mom’s!). I also buy scented potpourri and festive holiday candles to place around my home to give it a warm ambiance. I don’t have a snowmobile anymore, but I do enjoy a good brisk walk after a fresh snowfall. Weather permitting, of course!
For our out of town guests that come stay with us for a night or two, I always try to make their stay in our home as comfortable as possible. In the bathroom, I make sure there’s always fresh towels and body care products so they don’t have to bring their own or go hunting through my cupboards to find what they need.
It won’t cost much to get your home ready for overnight guests. Suave has a large selection of products for the entire family and at pretty amazing prices. From body lotions, body wash, shampoo and more, you’ll be able to stock up your bathroom to help make your guest’s stay more comfortable and making them feel pampered at their home away from home.
Take Suave® Naturals for instance. They’ve got a selection of fragranced body washes and lotions that are perfect to offer your houseguests. I want to pick up some of the Sweet Pea & Violet scented lotion and body wash. I think that would be one that my Grandma June would have liked.
Head to your local Walmart and pick up some Suave products to pamper your holiday guests. It’s hard to believe it’s less than a month away!
