Posterjack Gallery Box Review

Disclosure: I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample of the product for review purposes. The opinions are my own, based on my personal experience with the product.

I was keeping my eyes and ears open to find a local photographer who could do some headshots for my site. I found L. Rhodenizer Photography through a lady that works at the hair salon I go to. She came highly recommended. I didn’t want to have to drive to Halifax nor did I want to go back to our local department store photo studio since the quality isn’t that great. I couldn’t be happy with my pictures and I’m now planning to go back with John for some engagement portraits!

I shared my new photographs on my site and on my Facebook profile with my family and friends. I thought it would be nice to have one printed to hang on the wall in our house, but just wasn’t sure where to go to get that done. Luckily, I found Posterjack! They are the site to turn your photos into works of art and have a variety of options to choose from like Canvas Prints, Metal Prints, Posters, Acrylic Prints, Framed Photos and more. They recently added a new addition to their product lineup: a Gallery Box.

They come in a large variety of sizes/shapes to choose from as well as different price points. Obviously the bigger you go the more it will cost. The size I received was 16×16, a perfect square, for $64.99. I selected the black and white photo that the photographer had taken of me. John said it was his favourite so I wanted to give the Gallery Box to him as an early holiday gift.

I uploaded the image into Posterjack and found that I needed to find a better quality. The image I used first was the one I had resized so I could post it on my blog. It said quality was unsuitable so I used the photograph that came straight off the DVD from the photographer. It was a larger jpg file and this time I was successful! It said Excellent.

The next step is decide on a frame. They have four options to choose from: Silver, Black, Espresso and White. Since my photo was a black and white already, I went with a black frame. I figured that would be the safest bet since black would match all the rooms in our house. I like that they have the option to choose and I think it would really depend on the photo and the room you were placing it in. My style is more classic and understated so black is perfect.

After that you will decide if you want a border and if so, in what colour. In additon, you also select the size of the border from no border to 30%. I ended up going with no border since I wanted to keep the piece as simple as possible. I did check to see what it would look like with a variety of colours and border sizes and it was neat looking at how different they can make the photo look.

Here’s an example of the image with a black border at 10% size:

The last step is to select an Image Effect. The options are Original Colour, Black & White, Sepia Tone, Charcoal Sketch, Linocut, Solarize and Popart. I had a lot of fun trying out each visual effect, but I ended up selecting Original Colour. I think next time, I’ll be a little more adventurous and try one of the other effects.

After customizing my Gallery Box, I entered my shipping information and checked out. Posterjack ships anywhere in Canada through Fedex. Shipping is a flat rate of $8.50 (though it may be more if you are in a rural location so check their site). Note there’s free shipping for orders over $150. I was impressed with how quickly it got here. Remember its a custom product that they need to actually make when you order. I think was around a week’s time and the Fedex delivery person brought it right to my front door!

When it arrived, I was so impressed! It has a matte finish and the image was sharp, crisp and had exactly the classic look that I wanted. The only room in our home that is currently NOT being renovated is our dining room. It now hangs on one of the previously bare walls in the dining room.  I was thinking it would also look nice in our bedroom and I’m debating moving it up there. In the meantime, I want to get the photographer to shoot our engagement photos and I’ll hang a Gallery Box of it in the dining room.

I love the fact that it is so versatile and will look great in almost any room in the house. I need more Gallery Boxes and I need to buy them from Posterjack. The process was so darn simple and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
