Can you believe that it is already the time of year that we change our clocks back from Daylight Saving Time? I recently learned of an alarming statistic which indicates that thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries have occurred in homes that did not have any smoke alarms and that 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm was installed but is not working properly often due to dead or missing batteries. When you change your clocks it is very important to remember to also change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Energizer strongly believes in promoting home safety and has joined the International Association of Fire Chiefs and fire departments around the United States for the past 26 years in the Energizer Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program. This valuable and potentially life-saving program was developed to raise awareness to the important of having working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in homes to keep families safe. In our home it is very important to have both safety devices working at all times and we always make sure that our smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh Energizer® batteries install when we change back our clocks.
I was very impressed to learn that Energizer is so passionate about this initiative that they have donated 250,000 batteries to fire departments across the county to distribute to families in their communities. We attended a recent open house at a fire department in our community and learned valuable home safety tips to keep our family safe.
To learn more about the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program you are invited to visit the Energizer website and the Energizer Bunny Facebook page to learn more as well as find fire safety tips, a home escape plan that you can download and draw your family’s personal home escape plan as well as coloring and activity sheets (my children loved these and we incorporated it into our homeschool lesson to review fire safety).
This fall, please make sure that you install new batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors……it could save a life!
