Finish BOGO Ultimate Kitchen Makeover #FinishYourKitchen
Disclosure – I am participating in the Ultimate Kitchen Makeover Blogger Campaign on behalf of Finish. I received compensation as a thank you for participating and for sharing my honest opinion. The opinions on this blog are my own.
It feels like we’ve been renovating our kitchen for an eternity. John decided to gut our 1960s style kitchen back in September 2009 and it’s been an ongoing project since then. Don’t get me wrong. We have made some progress. It’s just very slow-going. I try and look on the bright side. At least I have a working sink and counter top! No cupboard doors and a stove in the middle of the room is what it’s like now. But hey at least I can actually use the kitchen. It just doesn’t look the greatest.
See what I mean? All our food is on display.
I’m good at visualizing thankfully and I can see our end goal! Our kitchen is going to be a café theme with black, red and cream for colours. Eventually I’ll have all my cupboard doors stained and my pretty black handles we purchased about 2 years ago. The stove will be long gone from the middle of the room and in it’s place will be my island with a built-in oven and cooktop. We’ll have comfy black (maybe red) bar stools sitting at the island.
Our countertop is black porcelain tile and the backsplash is a dark red ceramic. The grout still needs to be done on the backsplash. The floor is all sanded and ready to be tiled too, but that will be one of the last things we do.
I won a touch faucet a few years ago that we installed about a year ago. You just touch it and the water turns on and touch again to turn it off. It’s very convenient!
I made my own spice rack and I want John to build us a pantry in the corner to free up some cupboard space. It will be also be used to store all my cookbooks.
We had an electrician come over a few months ago to install recessed lighting in the ceiling. Our old kitchen had one tiny light in the centre and was soooo dark! Now we have six pot lights and I can finally see what I’m doing. The electrician also installed a light switch at each of the three entrances to the kitchen.
Last year I bought a dishwasher which is one of my favourite things to have in the kitchen! I washed dishes by hand for years and years so it was such a treat to have a brand new dishwasher and save me time in the kitchen.
When my dream kitchen is complete, I imagine myself spending lots of time in it cooking and making it the central hub for our family. Atlantic Canada is famous for kitchen parties and I want to be able to use our kitchen for entertaining our guests! I know that these things take time & $$$ especially since we are doing most of it ourselves. I keep telling myself that soon I’ll have a brand new beautiful kitchen. It can’t come soon enough! Until then this is my reality….

I’ve been using Finish Quantum capsules for the last little while and they’ve been working great! Even though my dishwasher is fairly new, it’s finicky and some detergents work better than others. I’m happy to report that Finish Quantum cleans my dishes brilliantly on the first try!
It has three components:
- Power Rinse Aid to wash away the food and residue and leaving dishes sparkling
- Quick Dissolving POWER GEL to penetrate and clean off 24 hour baked on food
- Advance Powder with Bleach to clean those tough stains like tea and coffee
I like that it’s in a capsule form so there’s no mess. Just pop it in the soap dispenser of your dishwasher and let it work its magic. I’ve been using the Lemon scented Finish Quantum capsules that make the dishes smell so clean and fresh.

Do you know what you would want your dream kitchen to look like?
My dream kitchen would have granite counter tops. Really nice, high-end stainless steel appliances, all custom cabinets and lots of space. A girl can dream, right?
You know how much I am in favor of dream kitchens!!!!
I would love to win a dream kitchen! Marble countertops, new clean and bright cupboards, an island with a breakfast bar, so many ideas!
My dream kitchen would have a french sink, french doors
I don’t have a definite idea yet. I think my cabinets are okay. I do need new countertops and flooring. I also want a new stove.
I really need a new kitchen remodel, and I would love to have all new white cabinets with the top shelves with glass doors and I would love to have all white appliances with a Corian counter in white with blue flecks of color, and a new floor with blue and white tiles in a diagonal pattern.
Wow! Your vision sounds wonderful. Very classy and sophisticated with the pops of color to bring in your personality. Yes, my kitchen has been a 10+ year project, too. My husband promised me when we moved in we would change the ugly, stained white counter tops and back splash as soon as possible. Now, many cars later – my husband’s hobby is cars – he just finished the back splash this summer and the counter tops are still white. My appliances are updated though, and I can see a beautiful kitchen somewhere in my future. Good luck to you with yours. Can’t wait to see the “Finish ed” project. I use Finish, too. 🙂
I love a white kitchen
I love my kitchen I just need a place for a dishwasher
