The Little Mermaid Consumer Products Cocktail Party and Dinner #TheLittleMermaidEvent
*Disney provided me with an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles to attend a blogger press junket for The Little Mermaid and Planes. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own and were not influenced in any way.*
Sunday, August 4th, was my first night in Los Angeles for Disney fun with The Little Mermaid and Planes (now in theaters, as of August 9th, 2013). The evening of the 4th was dedicated entirely to celebrating the upcoming release of The Little Mermaid on Blu-ray (available on October 1st, 2013).
Our The Little Mermaid cocktail party and buffet dinner were held right inside Roosevelt Hotel—where we also stayed for two nights. Walking into the banquet room where our special night was being held took my breath away; I felt as if I were under water, thanks to all of the under-the-sea themed décor on the walls, ceiling, and even our dinner tables.
Front and center in the room, there was a big display of The Little Mermaid dolls, clothing, and accessories—most of which you can currently find at Hot Topic, Target, and The Disney Store. In fact, as I was preparing for this trip, I went to two different Hot Topic locations to load up on The Little Mermaid clothing and jewelry. Here are some of my personal favorites that we got to see up close and personal at the cocktail party:
While we enjoyed our dinner of macaroni and cheese, sliders (vegetarian options, too!), and salad, a couple of surprise guests took the stage. We knew we would be meeting Ron Clements (Writer/Director) and John Musker (Writer/Director/Producer) the following morning, but had no idea they would be joining us for dinner! They shared with us some of their memories of working on the film and what it has meant to them over the years, now that The Little Mermaid is twenty-four years old. It feels like a lifetime ago that I was an excited little girl of six, anxiously sitting in a darkened theater, about to see a Hans Christian Andersen story my mom had read to me that sparked my lifelong love for mermaids.
They also put us to the test with The Little Mermaid trivia questions, giving us a chance to win one of the consumer products we’d gotten to check out at the front of the room. I had my hand up for each of the questions, but sadly, I didn’t get called on to answer. Some lucky ladies at my table each won the mini nail lacquer set from Sephora ($24.50), which contains six nail polishes with creative names such as “Devotin’ to Floatin’” and “Life in the Bubbles.”
I never wanted the cocktail party to end! Not only did I get to dress up, do my makeup, and fix up my hair, but I also got to hang out in an underwater-like setting I know Ariel and her friends would have been proud of!
Here’s a question for you all—which of the new The Little Mermaid products are you most excited about? Or do you already have some of them? Be sure to visit your nearest Target, Hot Topic, and Disney Store to see what they have in stock, or check them out online to make sure you get exactly what you want!
