My Summer Driving Playlist + $500 Giveaway!
Disclosure: I was compensated for this post. However, all opinions expressed are 100% my own.
When you hop in the car with me, you can always count on two things. I like to listen to music and I alternate radio stations so I’ve always got the tunes going! I never listen to the news!
KANETIX, an online comparison site for insurance, mortgages and credit cards, recently commissioned a study to find out how music impacts your driving. The results weren’t terribly surprising, but they were certainly interesting! Turns out Talk Radio listeners like to put the pedal to the metal and Hip Hop listeners are more likely to be charged with stunt driving.
KANETIX reached out to me and a few other Canadian bloggers to find out what our favourite summer driving songs were. Let me say that it was an EXTREMELY hard challenge. I like so many songs. There’s many songs that hold memories for me and the ones I selected all reminded me of summers past. Not only do they get my fingers tapping, but they are also fun to sing along to.
So without further adieu, let me introduce my Summer Driving Playlist!
1. You Might Think by The Cars
Most of the songs by The Cars remind me of summer. That’s because my parents loved playing The Cars when we would go boating on the Ottawa River. This song reminds me of swimming at The Fort on the Ottawa River, and going to the Sandbar near AECL. Ottawa Valley residents will know what I’m talking about 😉
2. We’re Here for a Good Time by Trooper
Trooper is a Canadian rock band legend. This song came out in 1977, a year before I was even born. However, it was played at many family reunions and it always brings me back to the lazy summer days at my uncle’s cottage.
3. Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf
I think this song will be on a few people’s summer driving playlists! This song reminds me of my cousin, Allison. We used to listen to it over and over the summer I stayed at her place for a few weeks when my parents went on a trip.
Here’s a quick blast from my past…my cousin Allison and I singing for our family.
4. Don’t Stop Believing by Journey
I love Journey and this song is one of my favourites. I find it inspirational in a way and it always reminds me to never give hope when everything seems to be going wrong. It’s also another album that my parents had and used to listen to when I was a child.
5. Burning in Love by Honeymoon Suite
Honeymoon Suite is a Canadian band from Niagara Falls, ON. They were HUGE in the 80s. Burning in Love is one of my favourite of their songs (though they have many that I love). It’s a song that brings me back to a happy childhood growing up in the 80s in Ontario.
So there you have it…that’s my top 5 favourite summer driving songs. They are older songs, but listening to them always makes me feel more alive.
