Book Review | Doodle with Maisy
Title: Doodle with Maisy
Author: Lucy Cousins
Activity books that encourage children’s creativity are a favorite in our homeschool. My three children are ages 8, 6 and 5 and they love to express themselves with interesting drawings and coloring activities.
Doodle with Maisy (list price of $8.99) is a fun doodling adventure book that is perfect for young children ages two to five years old. It was also a great activity for my six year old daughter, Hannah who is currently learning how to read since she was able to read the instructions for each activity herself and then complete the assignment. I love that this book has given her a boost of confidence in her reading abilities while encouraging her to use her imagination!
So, who is Maisy? This adorable little mouse likes to go on fun, exciting adventures with a cast of cute characters. My children love the interactive feature and can relate to the sweet characters. In Doodle with Maisy children are asked to complete a series of fun tasks such as covering an entire page with squiggles, add stripes to a group of critters, fill in the page with green things and finish a beautiful rainbow with colors.
This activity book can be used independently by the child simply for fun or as an educational resource for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners. It introduces learning concepts such as shapes, colors, counting, the alphabet and creative expression. I was also able to engage my children during doodling activities such as asking them to identify the objects or animals on the page.
To set up an activity, my child uses a pencil and crayons to complete the lesson and Doodle with Maisy has provided lots of fun. I appreciate that each page has lots of space for doodling and the paper quality is very nice for drawing and coloring. This 80 page book would be a great way to pass the time on road trips or while waiting in restaurants.
There are other books featuring Maisy too including Create with Maisy and Maisy’s Amazing Big Book of Learning. A set of these three books would make an excellent gift idea for a young boy or girl, especially those who love learning activities that are lots of fun.
