Book Review | Sleeping in Eden
Title: Sleeping in Eden: A Novel
Author: Nicole Baart
There is nothing better for me to do on a hot, steamy Florida evening then to curl up on the porch swing with a glass of wine and a good mystery. Sleeping in Eden by author, Nicole Baart was the perfect book that captured my attention literally from the very first intriguing sentence. What I really like from the beginning of this novel is that this book is not just a satisfying mystery but includes a richness of characters in a haunting love story.
Sleeping in Eden (List Price $16/Trade Paperback) open with a chill in Blackhawk, Iowa as Dr. Lucas Hudson investigates a suicide in a dilapidated barn and stumbles upon the dead body of a woman buried beneath the corpse. What he ultimately uncovers could change everything………..
Told in two different time periods the readers head back years earlier as Dylan and his high school sweetheart, Meg Painter were innocent and celebrating the joy of first love. The choices that Meg makes in the past with Jess, Meg’s older neighbor will explode in the future during Lucas’s murder investigation. How will it collide? That is the beauty of this story…..the author keeps you wondering throughout the entire story as the characters and storylines are developed and then come together.
This suspenseful work of fiction brilliantly weaves passion, jealously, deceit and the intricate nature of human relationships together in a realistic, satisfying story that hooked me from start to finish. Sleeping in Eden is one of those books that I find myself reflecting back upon and thinking about the different twists and turns leading up to the explosive ending.
This is the first novel that I have read by Nicole Baart however I will definitely be adding her earlier works to my summer reading list. Sleeping in Eden has that “wow” factor that mystery readers will appreciate and it is simply a delightful read!
