Book Review | Ballrooms & Ugly Poodles
I worked in the corporate healthcare world for many years and our home office was in Palm Beach, Florida. Therefore, I was very excited to read Ballrooms & Ugly Poodles by author, Katie Schnack and I can honestly say I laughed knowingly throughout this entire book…..it was divinely hilarious!
This “semi-tall tale” is an entertaining and funny account of the author’s job working as a waitress in a historic five-diamond hotel in Palm Beach, Florida. The stories are so funny and anyone who has been in the service industry or who has had the “pleasure” of interacting with the rich and powerful is sure to take much pleasure in reading this book. I love that the book is smart, witty yet never malicious and the tales are sure to have you laughing out loud (based on my own personal experience).
The author makes you feel as you if you are transported directly into her world of polyester tuxedos (yes, it is the uniform for the gals too), colorful characters (both her co-workers and the clients they served) and a world where the rich and the not-so-rich collide in a series of oh so funny experiences.
Ballrooms & Ugly Poodles is not a book I would normally be drawn too but this one hooked me from the start and I found myself reading it to the exclusion of the other lonely books waiting for me to pick it up. From the weddings of the rich and fabulous (at least in their own minds) to the “Condoleeza Rice Pudding”, “24k Gold Human” and a “Fish Fetus is Not Fine Dining” there are so many fun stories in this book. I guarantee you are not going to want to miss my favorite, which is the author’s retelling of the company Christmas Party….I actually had laughed so hard there were tears and it woke up my kids at 1 a.m. as I was cackling in bed with a cup of tea.
You can purchase Ballrooms & Ugly Poodles (SRP $11.97) in paperback or the kindle edition ($3.99) at Amazon.
