A few years ago my laptop’s hard drive completely died. I’m talking blue screen of death dead. I tried to get it repaired, but was told it was too far gone. I was really upset because I lost all my photos and monthly budgeting spreadsheets. Most of the photos were pictures of my kids. They are only little once and I felt so sad that they were gone for good. Back then, I had never even considered backing up my computer. Technology has advanced since then and thankfully so have I. I now understand the importance of backups and how being proactive can help to prevent this type of unfortunate situation from happening again.
Besides your computer crashing like mine did, there’s other things that can take down a computer. A virus can take down a computer or you could accidentally spill something on it and fry it. In fact, my sister did that to her computer about 10 years ago!
There’s a few different ways you can backup your hard drive, but I think the easiest way is by online backup. Norton™ Online Backup is what I’m currently using now to keep my irreplaceable photos and documents safe from loss. It’s a personal cloud service that automatically backs up your files to a secured online data center. Many households have more than one computer (ours included) so it’s great that you can use a single Norton™ Online Backup subscription for up to five computers (Windows or Mac). If you find you need more storage, you can easily add more secured storage space to your account.
If something does happen to your computer, you can quickly and easily restore the backed up files to any computer. You only need an Internet connection! Plus you can transfer the files between any Windows and Mac computers so if you do get a new computer, you won’t lose all your previous data. If you have a specific file you want to transfer, you can do a Keyword Search and quickly find it to transfer it over or restore it.
I think the biggest benefit for me is the peace of mind in knowing that all my files are being saved automatically with no extra work on my part. It’s basically just a set it and forget it type of thing. Norton™ Online Backup works in the background of whatever it is you are doing on the computer. Your files are compressed automatically for a faster backup and less storage space. It also only backs up your new files or files that have changed since the last back up.
No more saving everything to USB drives for me! Because really who has time for that?! Norton™ Online Backup is a simple solution that will save you both time and hassles. Norton is a company that has been around for over 25 years and I trust them to keep all my files safe and sound.
