Growing up my mom always stressed the importance of brushing our teeth. We had regular dental checkups and daily reminders from my mom to not forget to brush our teeth. She insisted we do it in the morning and before bed. Even today she still likes to remind me how important it is. I guess no matter how old your kids get, you never stop being a mom.
Now that I have my own kids I find myself following in my mom’s footsteps. I feel like I’m always reminding my own kids to brush their teeth. With Bridget, my youngest, I need to really watch her. She needs to be reminded or she won’t brush her teeth. Olivia, on the other hand, is very proactive and takes good care of her teeth. She recently got braces and understands the importance of oral health. She is religious about brushing her teeth in the morning and before bed. I’m impressed with how well she takes care of her teeth!
I gave Olivia the Oral-B Pro-Health For Me Vitality Electric Toothbrush to use. Her dentist recommended she use an electric toothbrush anyways to clean her teeth. It’s a rechargeable toothbrush designed for kids age 8 and up with a battery that is impossible to overcharge. It has a stylish design with stars and waterproof handle. It’s compatible with multiple brush head including the Ortho Brush Head that is recommended for people with braces. I like that it has a two minute timer on it so Olivia knows exactly how long she needs to brush her teeth for.
I asked Olivia what she thought and she said she really liked it and that it made her teeth feel clean. She’ll be able to tell when she needs to replace the brush head when the colour indicator bristles have faded to the halfway point.
For myself, I’ve been using the Oral-B® CrossAction® Pro-Health™ Toothbrush. It’s a manual toothbrush that cleans not only your teeth, but also your gums and tongue. It removes up to 90% of plaque in those hard to reach places. I lost all my dental coverage when my divorce became final so it’s really important that I take care of my teeth. Paying out of pocket for dental care can be horrendously expensive. Thank goodness my kids are still covered though!
I’m also trying to teach the kids the importance of flossing. Olivia has it down pat, but Bridget needs some work. In fact, so do I because every time that I do get to the dentist, I’m always lectured about how I need to be flossing every day. Flossing removes plaque and food particles that are stuck in your teeth. It’s very important for not only teeth but also gums. Oral B Glide floss is recommended by dentists more than any other brand.
