iRobot Mint 5200 Review
One of the great features of my house is the hardwood floors. With the exceptions of the bedrooms, we have beautiful light wood floors throughout the house. We also lucked out that the previous owners put in nice tile in the entry way of the house as well. But as much as I love the floors we have, I don’t really enjoy all the upkeep. Between vacuuming, sweeping and using wet mops, it does take a lot of time and energy to keep the floors looking pristine. When I heard iRobot, inventors of the vacuum cleaning robot Roomba, had come out with an automatic floor cleaner for hard floor surfaces, I couldn’t wait to try it out!
I received an iRobot Mint 5200 Automatic Floor Cleaner for review. When I opened the box I found a sleek, lightweight machine that almost seemed to pretty for such a dirty job. Once we completed the initial charge of the unit, the Mint was ready for duty in just a matter of minutes. We decided to test out the Mint’s dry sweeping mode in our kitchen. We simply snapped in one of the reusable dry sweeping clothes that came with the unit, placed the directional device (called the “Cube”) on one of our countertops, placed the Mint on the floor and pressed “dry sweeping” button. The Mint started its first run through the kitchen with ease. As it sensed walls, cabinets and appliances, the Mint simply redirected itself. The Cube uses NorthStar GPS technology that ensures that the Mint cleans the entire area before it shuts itself down. My husband and I were amazed at how efficient the unit was and how quickly it worked its way through our kitchen. Even my kids thought the whole process was cool! When the Mint finished its job in the kitchen, it returned to the spot we laid it down on, the Mint played a little song to signal that it was done and turned itself off. I was amazed! When I turned it over and looked at the pad, I was stunned at the amount of dirt and dust it had picked up (and to be honest, a little grossed out to think what my other cleaning efforts had missed!).
The Mint 5200 has a ton of great features that make it a great buy. One Mint 5200 Cube can cover 1000 square feet in one session. You can add Cubes to expand the cleaning area. The Mint is whisper quiet – you can easily talk on the phone, watch TV or listen to the radio while it works. You can use it for dry sweeping or wet mopping with fantastic results on any hard floor surface. And it’s compatible with other brands of disposable cleaning cloths, including Swiffer. The Mint and Cube work together to ensure that no area is missed. It’s also small and lightweight and easy to store. The Mint is a great product from a company that strives to be a pioneer in the robot industry.
The Mint 5200 retails for $299.99 on the iRobot online store. To learn more about iRobot and the Mint, visit the iRobot website.
