IOGear Review

When Hurricane Sandy hit our area we were one of the lucky ones not to have suffered too much physical damage to our property. However, we were one of the unfortunate ones that lost power – and we were out for over five days! While having a gas generator is usually a good thing in situations like this, the resulting gas shortage that developed in the days after the hurricane made it impossible to keep it running too long. So during the day, after we took our showers and soaked up a little heat, we turned off our generator and made our way through the day powerless. One item that came in handy was our IOGEAR Mobile Power Station – on one charge it kept both our cell phones with enough juice to keep us connected to the outside world until our power was restored. While I was impressed with the charging station before the hurricane, I was REALLY impressed with it during! So when IOGEAR contacted me about a review of another one of their products, I jumped at the chance!

IOGear Wireless HD Digital Kit

This time around I was given the chance to review an item that my husband and I have been coveting for a while now – a wireless HD digital kit. Through a built-in loop-through local HDMI ports, you can wirelessly transmit your favorite movies and videos to your bedroom, bathroom, den, loft, kitchen or any other HDTV set in your home when you set up one HDTV as your base. I was excited at the thought of being able to enjoy our DVR recorded programs from our living room TV on our bedroom TV, allowing me to watch the shows I like in the comfort of bed after a long day.

Setup of the kit was easy. It took my husband just a few minutes to set up the boxes on each of the TVs. Once each transmitter found the other, we were in business! And bonus, the kit allows for you to keep the transmitter boxes out of sight, so you don’t have to worry about having additional electronics hanging out on your side tables or TV stand (but even if you couldn’t “hide” them, the boxes are small, black and sleek and are far from an eyesore!). Because the kit is simple to set-up, it gives us flexibility to switch the system between our TVs – one great benefit of that is being able to “share” our one BluRay DVD player that’s in our living room with the TV we have in the basement playroom for the boys. It really gives us a lot of options with our entertainment systems. The IOGEAR Wireless HD Digital Kit retails for $249.95, and in my opinion is worth every penny!
