Scholastic Storybook Treasures Review
My seven year old son accompanied me to the election poles when I cast my vote for President of the United States and it was a proud moment for both of us. As a home educating mom, it was important to me to teach a unit study on the election process to my young children ages 5, 6 and 7 in our history class.
Scholastic Storybook Treasures® is always a valuable media resource for my children and the two Presidential themed DVD titles are no exception. So You Want to Be President? and Lincoln and Douglass-An American Friendship are two excellent DVD story compilations to teach young children about U.S. history while also promoting reading and pre-reading skills.
There are four stories brought to “life” onscreen in So You Want to Be President? including the title book, Madam President, My Senator and Me: A Dog’s Eye View of Washington, D.C. (my personal favorite) and I Could Do That! Esther Morris Gets Women the Vote. Proud to have been awarded the Caldecott Medal, all three of my children really enjoyed all four of these stories narrated by celebrities such as Stockard Channing.
In Lincoln and Douglass-An American Friendship there are four more historical stories with narrations by Danny Glover and James Earl Jones. We enjoyed The Pilgrims of Plimoth as part of our Thanksgiving studies and the other three stories gave my children a sense of proud in our history including the title book, The Journey of the One and Only Declaration of Independence and John, Paul, George & Ben.
Scholastic Storybook Treasures® titles brings history to life making it exciting for early readers and young children…..no complaints about history being “boring” thanks to Scholastic®.
You are invited to visit the New Kideo website to purchase these two Scholastic Storybook Treasures® titles or browse the entire collection. In my opinion, these would make excellent gift ideas because it is both educational and entertaining!
