My Review:

I grew up in the 80s and remember the music like it was yesterday. In fact, 80s music is my favourite genre and I’m pretty good at naming the songs and the artist. I loved Rock of Ages because I knew all the songs and could sing right along too!

The movie starts out with Sherrie from Oklahoma on a bus bound for Los Angeles. She has dreams of making it big as a singer and high hopes for her future. However, almost immediately after getting dropped off on the Sunset Strip she is mugged and all her belongings (her beloved record collection) are stolen. Drew who works at the Bourbon Room, a rock n roll bar on the strip, witnesses Sherrie’s mugging and runs over to help. There’s instant chemistry between the two and things move fast! Sherrie ends up getting a job as a waitress at the Bourbon Room thanks to Drew and their romance grows.

Tom Cruise plays Stacee Jaxx, a rock n roll legend. Stacee is usually drunk and acts like a diva showing up late to his gigs and treating people around him like crap. He’s just weird! I was curious to see how he would sing and he actually wasn’t too bad. I read online that Tom Cruise took voice lessons for over 4 months to prepare for this role. He was also in great shape! I’m not really a Tom Cruise fan, but I did like him in this movie.

It’s a musical so be prepared for song after song. I loved all the music and the choreography which made it all really come alive for me. The best part was Drew and Sherrie singing Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing together on stage. That’s one of my very favourite 80s songs and seemed to be the theme song of the movie. I think if you are a fan of the 80s like me, you will really enjoy Rock of Ages.

Own it on Blu-ray Combo Pack or Digital Download on October 9th.

Which song do you prefer: We Built This City OR We’re Not Gonna Take It? I love both, but I think I may like We’re Not Gonna Take It a smidge more.
