I was lucky enough to get away twice in the past month to two cities with hot climates (Los Angeles & Las Vegas). Coming back home to Nova Scotia, I was blasted with the cold fall air. Don’t get me wrong- I love fall and don’t mind the weather. I love curling up on the couch with a blanket and hot cup of coffee. It’s my favourite way to start the day.
As a K-Cup Ambassador for Green Mountain Coffee, I get to try the newest varieties of coffee on the market. I love my job! This month they sent me three varieties of their Fair Trade Certified Coffees: Pumpkin Spice, Colombia and Sumatran Reserve.
The Pumpkin Spice is to die for! It’s smooth and creamy with the delicious flavour of pumpkin with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s the perfect fall coffee if you ask me. I add cream to mine and I savour every last drop. It’s only available for a limited time and I will certainly miss it when it’s gone.
October is National Fair Trade Month and Green Mountain Coffee is helping to spread the word! This is a cause that is close to their hearts. Green Mountain Coffee was one of the very first roasters to sell Fair Trade Certified Coffee back in 1990! Fast forward to today and Green Mountain Coffee now offers one of the largest selections of Fair Trade Certified coffees in the USA. In fact, they were confirmed as the world’s largest purchaser of Fair Trade Certified coffee in 2011 by Fair Trade USA! You can connect with Fair Trade USA on Twitter and Facebook.
If you aren’t familiar with the term “Fair Trade”, let me try to explain. It basically means that coffee farmers are getting a fair price for their beans. It directly benefits the farmer and the community. Farmers earn wages that are fair and work in safe conditions. By buying Fair Trade, you are supporting these farmers directly!
I’m a fan of Green Mountain Coffee’s Fair Trade Certified Coffee. The Sumatran Reserve is an Extra Bold, Dark Roast coffee from the lush jungles of Indonesia. I was nervous that it would be too strong for me, but it was actually quite nice and had a bit of a sweet undernote. The Colombian Fair Trade Select is a Medium Roast with notes of fruit. It’s smooth and a great coffee to start your day with.
Great Coffee Good Vibes Pass It On
To further spread the word about Fair Trade, Green Mountain Coffee has teamed up with two musicians, Grace Potter and Michael Franti. Michael Franti visited Fair Trade farms in Sumatra while Grace Potter went to farms in Colombia. While there, they learned how Fair Trade makes a difference in the farmers lives and are sharing their personal experiences through their music. If you visit Green Mountain Coffee on Facebook you can watch some videos of both Grace & Michael’s experiences and enter to win a trip to Costa Rica!
Right now you can save 10% on all Green Mountain Fair Trade Certified brands with the discount code: GMCFTC8157. It expires on November 5, 2012 at 11:59 pm EST.
