Lakeshore Learning Computer Software Review

I use a lot of supplemental resources in our homeschool and Lakeshore Learning is my “go to” store for educational software, arts & crafts, puzzles and games. I have personally observed academic improvements in my own children by incorporating these enrichment activities. It is a great way to reinforce learning concepts especially in reading, science and mathematics.

Lakeshore Learning has a wide range of educational software featuring subjects such as language, math, science and social studies. In fact, there are over 80 different titles to choose from and you can search by subject area or by grade level with choices for grades pre-K through 6th grade.

My 2nd grader really enjoys the Can Do! Reading Game Show Comprehension software program. This “game show” format makes practicing reading comprehension skills fun instead of a chore. Adam will work through his class reading worksheets much quicker and with no complaints because he knows that if it is done in time he will get to use the Can Do! Program on the computer… excellent incentive! This software program is appealing to children because it has fun characters and it is set in outer space. This animated game show includes three categories so that the student(s) compete to use context clues, read for details and make inferences. My son loves that he gets to “spin the wheel” and there is always laughter when the animated character (competitor) gets a surprise at the end of the round.

Adventure Camp-A Sequencing Game uses Interactive Whiteboard Software and is good for individual computer use or for whole class instruction. My five year old daughter and seven year old son both love this animated computer game. The objective is to race through an obstacle course at a fun adventure camp where students love to practice sequencing skills. This is an exciting interactive game that really has children thinking as there are pop-up hazards and fun surprise bonuses along the way. How do they play? Students read short passages on the screen and then answer questions about the order of events. Campers can move ahead by answering correctly and “hopping through tires, balancing on a floating log and fly down a zip line. I have observed my children playing this game and appreciate that the reading passages are level appropriate yet challenging which leads to more reading confidence and no frustration.

Lakeshore Learning educational software is available in numerous ways to fit your needs. If you are a teacher then you might want to purchase a class license for your favorite educational software programs while home educators and parents can choose from single license CD-Roms or an instant download for one computer. I am very impressed with the affordable pricing with titles starting at only $14.95 for a single use CD-Rom or download.

I am very impressed with the high quality, affordable educational software titles from Lakeshore Learning and utilize these frequently in our home school. You are invited to visit Lakeshore Learning to browse the entire selection and shop for your favorites.
