It is a well known fact that I am a huge book nerd. If I had the time, I would spend my entire life with my nose in a book. Unfortunately, that just isn’t possible. Like you, I have thinks I have to do – clean the house, cook dinner, amuse a two year old. What if there was a way to get all that done and still read? There is – audiobooks! I have no idea why this never occurred to me before.
A few months ago, I got a membership at audiobooks.com. Now, whenever I am doing my work – cleaning, washing, blogging – I have a book playing in the background. I was able to finally finish The Enchantress of Florence. This was a beautiful book, but the flowery language is really hard to read sometimes. Having it read made it much easier to follow. The audiobook player has a bookmarking tool that automatically remembers where you stopped listening and starts it up right there.
The selection at audiobooks.com is great. They have all of Neil Gaiman’s books, most read by Neil himself. They have most of James Patterson and Stephen King and tons of new releases. There is a huge collection of children’s titles – Fancy Nancy, Narnia, Hunger Games, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and more. You can follow their blog to find out about new titles and featured books. July’s featured book is Snow White and the Huntsman to coincide with the movie.
The best thing about audiobooks.com is the price. On most audiobook sites, you have to pay for each individual book. Not so with audiobooks.com. You pay one fee, $24.95 per month, and you can listen to unlimited books. Unlike other sites, you don’t have to download anything either. The book will pop up in its own player on pretty much any device that will connect to the internet – your phone, iPad, laptop, etc. There is no limit and you don’t have to worry about running out of credits towards books. You can also read more than one audiobook at a time. This is great for families. You can read a book while your spouse reads another and your child reads another.
Audiobooks.com offers a free 7 day free trial of their service. At the end you can cancel without ever paying a cent. If you decide to try the service for $24.95 per month, you can still cancel at any time. There is no commitment.
