Southern Living “What’s For Supper” Cookbook Review
I love to discover new cookbooks and I am always searching for delicious, home cooked meal ideas that my entire family can enjoy.
Southern Living has a new cookbook that is perfect for busy couples and families. What’s for Supper: 30-Minute Meals Everyone Will Love (SRP $19.95) is my new favorite recipe idea book because it features lots of family friendly meals that are quick and easy to make. I appreciate that it features wholesome ingredients and it is now easier than ever for me to make a quick, tasty meal instead of getting take out.
This cookbook by Vanessa McNeil Rocchio is especially appealing for families because it includes kid-friendly recipes for even the pickiest eaters as well as sections for such as “Cooking for Two”, “Weeknight Company”, “Slow Cooker” and even “No-Cook Suppers”.
We have a ton of ripe tomatoes in our garden so recently I have been searching for dinner ideas to use our bounty. In What’s for Supper I found the “Herbed Tomato Tart” recipe that looked delicious. The full-color photos made this dish appear mouth-watering and the finished product was not a disappointment. My family loved this tomato tart and it disappeared in minutes at our dinner table.
I also made the “Slower-Cooker Barbecue Pork” and it was another hit along with the “Roasted Salmon with Lemon & Dill” (I used fresh dill from our garden). The “Sausage and Cheese Frittata” was a family favorite that I prepared ahead of time and served the next morning when we had to leave for an appointment. It felt great to quickly give a hearty, protein rich breakfast to my kids on a day that I would normally have served them a bowl of cereal instead. There are lots of other recipes that I plan to make from this cookbook which is a big plus because I find that typically I will make only 3-4 recipes from most other cookbooks.
The “Time-Saving Tips” and “Vanessa’s Savvy Secrets” were informative techniques that gave me ideas like purchasing minced garlic in a jar at my grocery store instead of pressing the garlic myself (I loved this one!).
