Super Why!: Around the World Adventure DVD Review
My husband and I are big fans of the children’s programming on PBS. The educational components to their programming are wonderful. My oldest son is a fan too. As a matter of fact, his favorite app on the iPad is the PBS Kids app, where he can pick and choose full episodes of his favorite PBS shows to watch. One of those favorites is Super Why! We were all excited at the prospect of reviewing the latest Super Why! DVD just released, Super Why!: Around the World.
Super Why!: Around the World features three episodes of the show, based on the helping kids learn the fundamentals of reading through interactive storybook adventures. Each episode is a little less than a half an hour, making the run time of the DVD approximately 90 minutes. The three episodes include:
Around the World Adventure – in this story, Wyatt and the super readers set off to figure out where a girl from another school they contacted through the computer lives.
Naila and the Magic Map – in this episode the super readers explore the world of ancient Egypt to try to find the meaning of the symbols on an old Egyptian treasure map.
Jasper’s Cowboy Wish – this episode features Wyatt and his friends as they help Pig figure out exactly what it is that cowboys do.
Each episode encourages the children watching to sing along, help find letters and help the characters spell out new words. My oldest son at three loves this type of interaction and was happy to play and sing along! I like that this DVD is a learning tool for my kids, and something that I can feel comfortable with them watching over and over again.
The DVD also includes some neat extras, such as interactive games, music videos, printable activities and coloring pages. Super Why! Around the World Adventure sells for $12.99 on the PBS site.
