Scandal | The Complete First Season DVD Review

Title: Scandal: The Complete First Season

Release Date: June 12, 2012

About the Series:

From the creator and executive producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” comes a drama revolving around the life and work of a professional crisis manager and her dysfunctional staff. A former consultant to the President, Olivia Pope dedicates her life to protecting and defending the public images of America’s elite.

After leaving the White House, the power consultant opened her own firm, hoping to start a new chapter – both professionally and personally – but she can’t seem to completely cut ties with her past. Slowly it becomes apparent that her staff, who specialize in fixing the lives of other people, can’t quite fix the ones closest at hand — their own.

Stars:

Kerry Washington (“Ray”, “The Last King of Scotland”), Henry Ian Cusick (“Lost”), Columbus Short (“You Got Served”), Guillermo Diaz (“Weeds”), Darby Stanchfield (“Mad Men”), Katie Lowes (“Super 8”), Tony Goldwyn (“Ghost”), and Jeff Perry (“Grey’s Anatomy”).

My Review:

“Scandal” is gripping drama with all the right elements of a great show. There’s suspense, deception, murder, infidelity and everyone has a secret. Each episode builds upon the previous but they also work on a different case in each one. It keeps it fast paced and interesting for the viewer.

Olivia Pope, the main character, is a powerful lawyer in Washington who heads up her own firm. Except it is not a law firm like you might think. It’s actually a firm that deals with damage control and getting their clients out of difficult situations sometimes using unorthodox means. She is a woman that is respected and I think feared as well.

John’s favourite character was “Huck Finn”, the ex-CIA agent, who would do anything for Olivia. He’s a whiz with the computers and if someone needs to be found, he will find the person.

I’m usually not into political thrillers, but “Scandal” is an exception. I watched all the episodes almost back to back because I wanted to see what would happen. I even shed a tear in one of the episodes which was not expected! It ends on a cliffhanger which makes me want to know what is going to happen NOW! I guess I will just have to wait for Season 2!
