Title: Here Comes Hortense!

Author: Heather Hartt-Sussman

My Review:

Here Comes Hortense! is a fun sequel to the children’s book, Nana’s Getting Married by author, Heather Hartt-Sussman. My children were laughing out loud at the antics of the feisty Nana in both of these adorable picture books.

For a little boy who loves to spend time with his beloved grandma, it can be devastating to have to share her attention when she falls in love with “Bob” and soon plans a wedding in Nana’s Getting Married. Making it even worse for our cute six year old friend in Here Comes Hortense! is when he unexpectedly learns that he will be joined at his upcoming theme park visit with Nana and Bob by the interloper Hortense, who is Bob’s granddaughter.

Both of these stories are heartwarming and realistic portrayals of how a young child can feel when someone they love has to be shared with someone new. The inclusion of humorous antics really completes these stories. The delightful illustrations by Georgia Graham are playful and capture the wide range of emotions and rivalry perfectly.

Thankfully, my children have not had to share their grandparent’s attention but they still thoroughly enjoyed both of these fun children’s books. You are invited to visit the author’s website to learn more about these books which would make especially thoughtful gifts for any child who may be experiencing a similar situation with a loved one.
