Book Review | What Would the Founding Fathers Think?
My children and I read a lot of books in our home school as well as for pleasure reading. Once in awhile a book comes along that really stands out. What Would the Founding Fathers Think? by David Bowman is an exceptional history book for young kids through a preteen/teen level. In fact, just after the book arrived, I thought I had misplaced it and then noticed that my seven year old son was sitting in the corner looking at it intensely. He said, “Mom, can we read this book at school today because the pictures are really awesome!”
David Bowman is an artist as well as an author and his illustrated caricatures are brilliant and really captured my son’s imagination to want to learn more about American history. I really appreciate that the concept of this book is based on the principles that America was founded upon from the perspective of our Founding Fathers. The lively text is presented in a way that is easier for children to understand as the book transports the reader back in time via a Skype session with George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and James Madison.
The author is a proud American who is passionate about teaching children the importance of “the principles and ideas that were the foundations of this nation”. He does this is a way that is interesting and factual. Children will realize that they will be inheriting a great nation….that is in serious trouble. It includes factual sections based on historical records of founding beliefs including “God & Religion”, “Values & Virtues”, “People Govern Themselves”, “Limited Government Protects People’s Rights” and how a lack of can affect the intentions of what American was intended to be.
The unique, smart and creative book is a wonderful read for children of all ages and it has opened up an excellent discussion in our house about the founding of our great nation, even my husband joined in with us. This is a must-have for any home school curriculum or home library!
What Would The Founding Fathers Think? (SRP $11.99) is available for purchase online at retailers like Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and more. To learn more about this book you are invited to visit the author’s website…..you are not going to want to miss checking out these wonderful illustrations!
