Press Day at Pixar | Archery 101 #DisneyPixarEvent

Archery is going to become a very popular sport thanks to The Hunger Games, Marvel’s The Avengers, and soon Brave. The main character of Brave is Princess Merida, who would rather spend her time shooting with her bows and arrows than learning how to become a princess.

During our day at Pixar, we were able to see the first 1/3 of the film. A few of those scenes included some excellent footage of Merida demonstrating her archery skills. Merida makes it look so easy!

We each got several turns on the range on the Pixar property, getting coached on how to properly hold the bow and how to fire the arrow at the target. I aimed a bit too high with my first two arrows, but I finally made a good shot and hit the blue ring closest to the bullseye.

I was a bit nervous during this task because I’d never done this before. The bow I held was a bit lighter than I was imagining it would be. The bowstring was a bit rough on my fingers, but apparently you can wear some “finger tips” that will keep them from getting too beat up. I was taught to pull back the string using my index, middle, and third finger. Our time on the range was a bit short, and after this experience I am definitely considering looking for a local archery group so I can try this out some more!
