K5 Learning Review
As a home educating mom of three children in 1st grade and Pre-K, online educational programs have proven to be a valuable resource. I utilize several programs in our daily curriculum and recently discovered K5 Learning. This personalized online learning program specializes in reading, math and spelling enrichment and is exceptional in terms of educational content and value.
K5 Learning is award winning math and reading program that covers a wide range of areas to boost confidence, skills and ultimately the student’s performance. For example, the K5 Reading program covers phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, vocabulary and reading comprehension. K5 Math focuses on numbers and operations, geometry, measurement (time and money), algebraic thinking and data analysis.
When starting the program, my children’s reading and math skills were assessed. After the assessment was completed, K5 developed a personalized series of lessons that focuses on their skills level as opposed to actual age. The program is engaging and my children look forward to their daily lessons. In fact, my 1st grade son consistently requests to use K5 Learning versus many of his other web based options. I also appreciate that while the program is designed so that the child works independently, I have access to comprehensive reports that give me detailed information about my child’s progress.
My children have benefited from the teaching style of K5 Learning because it immerses them in a full lesson and then gives them a variety of hands-on activities to reinforce what they have been taught. I also like that I don’t have to worry about any disruptive advertisements or external links so I can feel confident when my children are completing their reading, math and spelling work. There is even a feature, K5 Math Facts that provides help with instant recall for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. I like that it actually teaches the math concept as opposed to rote memorization and I feel such pride watching the “light bulb” switch on when my child understands the meaning of what he has been taught.
I am extremely satisfied with the K5 Learning program and have utilized the parental reports on a regular basis to aid me in focusing on my children’s strengths and areas of weakness in our daily curriculum. This program has become an invaluable tool within our home school and is an excellent program for home educated children as well as those in public/private schools grades K-5 who are developing critical reading and math skills that will help them succeed throughout their education. Over the next few months, I will continue to update you on my children’s progress in the program as well as any new information that I learn about K5.
You are invited to visit K5 to view the informative K5 Intro Video or to try a free sample lesson. At $199 per year or $25 per month (additional students are $15/month or $129 per year) this program is a bargain compared to the prices of a physical tutoring program.
