Flash Point: Fire Rescue Cooperative Board Game Review
Ever since my four year old son was severely burned on his arm in a camp fire accident, his six year old brother has wanted to be a firefighter so that he could “rescue and protect people from getting hurt”.
They were all very excited to learn how to play Flash Point: Fire Rescue which is an exciting cooperative board game. Unlike other board games that are gathering dust in our closet after one or two plays……..Flash Point has become a big hit with our entire family.
Flash Point: Fire Rescue is a wonderful board game for Family Game Nights. As I mentioned, it is a cooperative game so that just like a real fire rescue squad, you work as a team and “win” or “lose” together. The board game was designed to be adaptive with four skill levels of play, i.e. Family, Recruit, Veteran or Heroic.
It is listed for ages 10 and up, so I admit that I was initially a bit concerned that it may be too difficult for my young children (ages 4, 5 and 6) to learn how to play. However, the instructions were very clear and after we had practiced a bit the game play became very natural and it was a lot of fun. Each player has control of a firefighter that can do four different actions including “move”, “extinguish fires”, “carry victims to safety” or “chop through walls”. The object is to work together to rescue all the people from the burning building.
I appreciate that this is a game of skill (and a bit of luck) so it is a creative twist on the standard child/family board game. Flash Point: Fire Rescue is also such a uniquely designed game that it is going to be appealing to children, teenagers and adults alike. You can play solo or with 2-6 players and games last about 45 minutes (our last 60-75 minutes because we take extra time to help the little ones).
