Book Review | Our House is Round
Author: Yolanda Kondonassis
I thoroughly believe that young children can also contribute to conserving the resources of our precious Earth. Therefore, I have been teaching my own three children who are ages 4, 5 and 6 about protecting the world around them since they were toddlers.
We recently added an excellent new children’s book to our home library. Our House is Round: A Kid’s Book About Why Protecting Our Earth Matters was written by the world celebrated harpist, Yolanda Kondonassis (Her CD, “Solo Harp: The Best Of is absolutely beautiful music). It is an environmental picture book for children ages 5-9. This book covers topics such as recycling efforts, the benefits of not littering, pollution, climate change, conserving and natural resources.
I really like the manner in which the author delivers the text, information and facts in a manner that younger children can understand. It is also motivational in its teaching style so that it has the potential to empower children to explore ways that they too can contribute. I appreciate that the book offers manageable and realistic ways for children to help in a “Messy Planet Action Plan”.
The lovely illustrations by Joan Brush are colorful and really captured my children’s interest as they made numerous comments and asked lots of questions while we read this book together.
This book is an excellent resource for children to learn about earth conservation. Perfect for teachers or home use, Our House is Round is available for purchase from Sky Pony Press for the SRP of $16.95.
