 My Review:

A few weeks ago I was chatting about TV shows with my friend, Yolanda. She mentioned that she really enjoyed the show, Jane By Design. I told her I hadn’t heard of it. I don’t have cable and the DVD wasn’t out in stores yet. Yolanda told me that I needed to see it and that I would like it. She definitely intrigued me enough to see what it was all about. I watched the series this past week and Yolanda was right. I did enjoy the show!

Jane By Design is an upbeat and high energy show with quirky characters. The show centers around the life of teenager, Jane Quimby, who is a bit of a social outcast with her unique style and personality. Jane seems to only really have one good friend, Billy, who looks like the rebel type (but with a good heart).

In the first episode, Jane applies for an internship at a New York City fashion house, Donovan Deceker (or so she thinks). Due to a serious miscommunication, Jane is hired on as the executive assistant of the no-nonsense Gray Chandler Murray (played by Andie MacDowell). Uh-oh! So Jane becomes a high school student for a few hours each morning and then NYC career woman by afternoon/evening!

My favourite scenes were Jane’s work at the fashion house. She had so many close calls like when she lost the Look Book she was supposed to deliver to her boss in Paris. I felt bad for her and worried she wouldn’t find it in time.

I also liked the episode about the Trunk Show at Gray’s home. Jane was in charge of making sure all went smoothly, but of course it didn’t!! It was entertaining to watch a bunch of drunks crash the show and how poor Jane handled it. If it were me, I probably would have just walked away!

Then there is India, the designer we love to hate! John really did not like her at all and often yelled a few choice words at the screen with some of the stunts she pulled. She did some pretty bad things including trying to sabotage Jane and even stealing and taking credit for work that was not hers.

One of my favourite characters was Jane’s older brother, Ben, who is also Jane’s guardian. He was hilarious! Watch the camping episode- I cracked up at some of the things he said and did.

I think both my girls would like Jane By Design especially Olivia who will be turning 14 in a few months. Actually, I think it would be right up her alley since Olivia has an interest in fashion and I know she would get a kick out of some of the situations that Jane finds herself in! I can’t wait to see what happens next in Volume Two!
