My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: The Friendship Express DVD Review

Title: My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic: The Friendship Express

We’re singing a new song in our house: the My Little Pony theme song! As soon as I heard about My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: The Friendship Express from Shout! Kids Factory and Hasbro, I knew that Zoe would absolutely adore it. In fact, the first song that she ever learned to sing was from an older My Little Pony DVD.

My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: The Friendship Express DVD is the first DVD of the newest My Little Pony franchise and contains 5 episodes from the new series. Each episode is about 22 minutes long, and the series is currently airing on The HUB. We had actually seen the first episode when it was available on iTunes, and even I was excited to see how the second part of the Friendship is Magic story line concluded.

The 5 episodes on this DVD are:

  • Friendship is Magic, Part 1 (Mare in the Moon)
  • Friendship is Magic, Part 2 (Elements of Harmony)
  • Over a Barrel
  • Hearth’s Warming Eve
  • The Last Roundup

The DVD releases on February 28, 2012 and is available on Amazon.com as a pre-order for the low price of $9.99. Retail price is 14.97, so this is a price you don’t want to miss out on!

Episode Summaries:

Friendship is Magic, Part 1 and 2

These are the first two episodes in the new series, and tell about Princess Celestia and her sister, Princess Luna, who rule over the land of Equestria. Princess Luna is unhappy about her role in ruling, and turns into the Mare in the Moon. 1,000 years later, a studious unicorn named Twilight Sparkle learns about a prophecy that may be about to come true. With the help of her new friends in Ponyville, Twilight Sparkle restores peace and harmony in all the land.

Over a Barrel

On their way to deliver an apple tree to Appleloosa, the ponies from Ponyville are attacked by the local buffalo herd that wants to prevent the apple orchard from growing. Eventually, the ponies and the buffalo set aside their differences and work together to find a resolution that will benefit both of them.

Hearth’s Warming Eve

The Ponyville ponies are on their way to Canterlot, where they will put on a stage show for Celestia about the founding of Equestria and how different pony leaders had to work together and form friendships to ensure their survival.

The Last Roundup

Applejack decides that she doesn’t want to return to Equestria, so her pony friends go after her to bring her home again. The lesson this episode teaches is that you should never run from your problems, but lean on your friends when you are feeling your lowest.
