Saturday Featured Blog | Woven by Words

Welcome to Simply Stacie’s Saturday Featured Blog! If you would like your blog featured, please fill out this form.

Today I would like to welcome Mimi from Woven by Words! I had a chance to learn more about herblog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I’m a single mom of 4 kids: 20 down to 8. Work part time at a hardware store IN the hardware department. I love power tools for the record! I enjoy gardening and wish the Springs were longer here in MN. I’m from Washington, but now live in Minnesota. One of my favorite things to do is go to a Twins game.

Please tell me about your blog.

My blog started out as simply a Christian book review blog. I did that for about a year and a half and really built up some great relationships with authors and publishers. Then I decided I wanted to do product reviews. Well, that opened Pandoras box and I ended up creating a 2nd blog to separate the two. After a year of struggling to maintain both blogs, I decided this past February to bring them back together. Now I’m working on finding my blogging voice since I’m trying to add more personal stuff to my blog.

How long have you been blogging?

I’ve been blogging since February ’08 and it’s been quite the process. It’s certainly evolved over time.

How did you get started?

I was following a Yahoo Group for Christian Authors and their Fans. I saw that someone was giving away a book on their blog and I was like, “huh? They’re giving away a book? How can I do that?” I contacted Julie Lessman, who’s an amazing Christian author and she told me all about it. So, she’s the reason I picked up blogging in the first place.

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I feature anything that fits into the family life. If it’s for the mom or dad, the kids, or the pets, then it’ll be featured. Because my blog started off to honor Christian authors, I have kept that thought when I choose products or sites to review. Nothing wrong with doing “adult” product reviews, but they’re just not for me and those who follow me for the most part.

What was your favourite giveaway?

I think my favorite giveaway was last years Holiday Hop that you hosted because I had so much to giveaway and they were all such great products!

Who does your blog appeal to?

Women in general.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I don’t really know. I’ve been trying to figure that out myself. I want to be more personal and figure out how to put what’s in my heart & brain into my posts. How do I engage my readers and want them to come back for more. That’s what I’m looking for.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Finding out how to write a blog post with the voice in my head. I hear that we should post like we’re talking to our best friend. It’s not easy. Sometimes when I have something typed out, it just doesn’t sound right or it’s not as funny as I thought it was initially. I struggle with what I sound like. Also how to add photos that express what I’m trying to say.

What do you love about blogging?

The interaction with others. When people comment on my personal posts, I try to email each one of them back. That’s my favorite part of blogging for me.

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

No, not really. Maybe when people leave comments that aren’t sincere or just drop by to say, “hi, come check out my blog …” Other than that, not so much.

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.

Obviously your which is a wealth of information! I also love Only Parent Chronicles, by Kristin who really is an ONLY parent. Liz at A Nut in a Nutshell is a favorite. Jen at Mom Spotted, Shell at Things I Can’t Say, Melinda & Rob at Look What Mom Found…and Dad Too, Melissa at Getting all my Ducks in a Row, and Pam at Screaming Mimi.

How can people find you?

Oh, they can find me just about anywhere: Twitter as @MimiBakerMN, Facebook, StumbleUpon, LinkedIn , Google + and Pinterest.
