Book Review | The Hazards of Hunting While Heartbroken

Title: The Hazards of Hunting While Heartbroken

Author: Mari Passananti

My Review:

When her fiancé calls off the wedding just one month before, Zoe Clark’s world starts to fall apart. Oh, and he called it off because he’s gay. And he’s been seeing her hairstylist. Just when she thinks things can’t get worse his father buys the building she lives in and increases her rent. She has just about resigns herself to start apartment hunting when she gets flowers. A man who works in the building across from her sent them to her and wants to take her out. Her friends disagree on what she should do. One says to go for it and the other says to brush him off. Oscar Thornton seems like the perfect man. He has money, looks and personality. He sweeps Zoe off her feet and takes her on the ride of her life. But Zoe is wondering if it can’t be too good to be true. He seems to have more money and influence that his job would bring in. She starts to wonder what he’s hiding and starts to dig. Is she just being paranoid or is there something dark hiding beneath the surface.

This book pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t stop throwing you curves from there to the end. It engages you with realistic conversations and comical situations. Part romance, part comedy, part suspense. Mari Passananti does an incredible job of weaving together witty dialogue and strange situations. It’s easy to find yourself imagining yourself in Zoe’s shoes. She’s vulnerable from the breakup, she’s hopeful of finding the perfect man, she’s unhappy with her job and she doesn’t know what to do about the niggling doubts she has about Oscar’s sincerity.

If I had to recommend one book to someone, this one would spring to mind. It is a entertaining page-turner that you won’t want to put down. Imaginative and witty. Get it for yourself or a friend, but don’t pass this one by. Two thumbs way up! Do yourself a favor – buy it. Her first novel and Mari Passananti hits it out of the park. A perfect book to carry with you on the go. Looking forward to seeing what the author comes up with next.
