Saturday Featured Blog | But I Do Have A Law Degree
Welcome to Simply Stacie’s Saturday Featured Blog! If you would like your blog featured, please fill out this form.
Today I would like to welcome Shannon from But I Do Have A Law Degree! I had a chance to learn more about her blog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
Once upon a time I was a DC corporate lawyer with high ambitions and long hours. Then, my husband and I had two kids (Braden, 2.5 and Casey, 7 months), and after a lot of soul searching, a few months ago I threw in the towel to become a stay at home mom. Some days are harder than others, but ultimately I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to spend this time with my boys.
Please tell me about your blog.
My blog chronicles the challenges that I am facing in my transition from working to stay at home mom. As many who have gone through this process know, it is hard to let go of your former professional identity, and the decision is not an easy one. The blog is helping me express myself during this life change, as well as reach out to other women who are facing similar issues.
How did you get started?
On a whim! I wrote one post and didn’t think anyone would read it. Then it got picked up by a few legal blogs and I got more visitors than I ever anticipated. I am very grateful to have received that exposure so early, and am so appreciative that many readers have stuck by me and continue to visit the blog.
Who does your blog appeal to?
My blog has a broad appeal. It appeals to all moms, as well as anyone facing work/life balance issues, male or female.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
Wherever it takes me! I’d like to get it looking a bit more professionsal, and perhaps create some new pages (and maybe even a twitter account if I can figure it out). But at the end of the day, even if the aesthetics change, the content will remain the same. The blog is a forum for me to vent and express myself about all issue related to being a mom, and former professional. And so far, I think people are enjoying it.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Trying to post often enough. So many times I will be at the computer about to start writing, and one kid will cry, or the other one will want a snack, etc. It has forced me to perfect the art of multitasking.
What do you love about blogging?
I feel like part of a greater community – a community that three months ago I did not even know existed. I love connecting with others who have faced the same obstacles I have, and I enjoy finding other blogs that are inspiring and humorous.
Do you have a blogging pet peeve?
The fact that blogging requires a certain level of technical expertise – which I am sorely lacking!
Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
How can people find you?
