What am I? Christmas, written by Anne Margaret Lewis is a “My Look and See Holiday Book” and it is a lot of fun. This interactive story had my children shouting out the answers to the clues in order to guess who is behind the flap. Is it Santa’s Reindeer, a Christmas Elf or a candy cane? Lift it up, take a peek and watch the kids light up with joy when they have guessed it correctly. The illustrations by Tom Mills are colorful and engaging and this book is sure to be a hit with younger children. What am I? Christmas is available for purchase in hardcover for only $9.00!
The Christmas Pups by Teresa Bateman is a wonderful holiday story especially for children who love dogs. These adorable puppies find themselves homeless when abandoned on the road side. The message in this story helps teach children the true meaning of Christmas in this heartwarming tale of love and finding a family. I also like that it opened up a discussion with my three young children about animal shelters and the importance of animal rescue. The illustrations by John Kanzler brought a smile to all of our faces as he successfully captures the personalities of these sweet pups and brings the Christmas magic to life! You can purchase The Christmas Pups for only $16.99!

The Elf Off the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition Gone Bad is written by “Horace the Elf” and is a funny inside peak into the life of a “disgruntled little helper” who is very good at causing holiday mischief. This parody is a Christmas book that is definitely for the grown-ups and is sure to be a conversation piece at holiday gatherings and parties. It did bring lots of naughty giggles to my husband and I as we read this book together over a cup of spiked eggnog. I noticed this book was for sale at my local Hallmark Crown store and you can visit the official website to learn more about purchasing it…..don’t forget the free recipe for Horace’s “Bad Elf” Spiked Egg Nog because it is really yummy!
Available from Pelican Publishing:
The Boy with A Wish-The Nicholas Series by Harry B. Knights is my favorite Christmas story this holiday season. My children and I were captivated by this wonderful story of a young boy who is disabled and can’t use his legs. He finds joy in fixing and creating toys for the boys and girls in his village especially a young girl who is very sick on Christmas Eve. Will he make it time to deliver her gift……will his life’s wish be granted? What happens next is truly magical and this book is sure to be a Christmas classic in our home over the years to come.
Musher’s Night Before Christmas by Trisha Brown and illustrated by Debra Dubac is a delightful twist on the classic reindeer tales as this story features a musher and eight brave dogs on the Iditarod Trail. Due to a bad snowstorm, Santa is not able to make it to the small Alaska town to deliver presents so he must count on the team to work through the night and harsh conditions. The story and illustrations are fun, cheerful and teach children about the spirit of determination and not giving up….a lovely story!
The Littlest Cowboy’s Christmas by Michael Chandler and illustrated by Terry Jacobsen is a magical story that features the very talented superstar, John Denver. When the author and his young son spent Christmas Eve in Colorado with a charming group that included a horse, the horse’s owner, a singer-songwriter and his son they “sat in a candlelit barn and told stories, made toasts and sang along as the ‘guitar fella’ played Christmas carols.” It is a wonderful story of a father’s love for his son and a glimpse into the lives of a “couple of cowboys.” This book includes a CD recording of John Denver’s “Silent Night” which is absolutely beautiful. My children and I nestled together to read the story and listen to the CD as I gave my own silent thanks for my family and the blessings in my life this Christmas.
