Welcome to Simply Stacie’s Saturday Featured Blog! If you would like your blog featured, please fill out this form.

Today I would like to welcome Kristin from Keenly Kristin. I had a chance to learn more about herblog and here’s what she had to say…

Please tell me about yourself.

I am 40, have four teenaged children, and was born and raised in Philadelphia. I lived in Akron, Ohio during my 30s, during which time I earned two degrees from the University of Akron and attended school. I also worked as a Communications Assistant for the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, as an editor for the university newspaper, and as a correspondent for the Akron Beacon Journal. After my first year of law school, there was a major fire at my house and, one week later, my father passed away from lung cancer. I took a leave of absence and came back to Philadelphia, where I subsequently injured my back and became disabled…BUT I also was reunited with my soul mate, a man who had been my “first love,” like 20 years before. So, with the major upheaval and change has come wonderful, unimaginable joy!

Please tell me about your blog.

My blog is a mix of reviews, giveaways, and pop culture. I blog about American Idol, Jersey Shore, and Dancing With the Stars, for example…and those posts seem to draw almost as many people as the giveaways do!

How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging for Simply Stacie (hi!) over a year ago. I did product reviews for Fabulous Won for about six months (June through November 2010), until Beth changed the format of her blog. I launched Keenly Kristin in September 2010.

How did you get started?

Believe it or not (this is a crazy story, now that I think of it), I learned about the world of “sweeps” and giveaways on an episode of Wife Swap back in the fall of 2009. One of the families considered entering online giveaways/sweepstakes a job, and they spent a specific amount of time (I think 8 hours) doing so. The next day, I googled “sweepstakes” and I landed at I started entering giveaways and started winning a lot…at which point it became somewhat addictive!

What kinds of products do you feature on your blog?

I really don’t have a specific “niche” and do reviews/giveaways of a wide variety of products. I do a lot of T-shirts, jewelry, and healthy/beauty products. I’ve reviewed everything from Pure Pearls to Waterpik to Flat Iron Experts Hair Straighteners to Arctic Zero. I’m open to reviewing just about anything!

What was your favourite giveaway?

That’s tough! Powermat definitely ranks pretty high…but Waterpik was also a goody, as was Arctic Zero (which is really hard to get where I live!).

Who does your blog appeal to?

Well, in a nutshell, I’d say women who are over 30, with kids, but most important, a good attitude and a great sense of humor.

What direction do you see your blog going in the future?

I hope to work more with brands and work on campaigns and promotions. I don’t foresee any major changes from what I’m doing now. I would love to branch out and be able to partner with companies that would give me the opportunity to travel or review really amazing stuff like computers or iPads or Sleep Number Beds! Some day!

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?

Trying to manage my time effectively. Sometimes I find myself just spending all day online and, at the end of the day, I feel like I haven’t really maximized my efforts.

What do you love about blogging?

I love that I have total control of what I do and say. I appreciate that I can feel productive and creative in spite of my health limitations. I like that, through blogging, I can express myself, network, and meet new people, not to mention get great opportunities!

Do you have a blogging pet peeve?

I have a few. One thing that makes me nuts is a sponsor who doesn’t follow through on their commitment to winners. I have had this happen to me as a winner (more than once), but (*fingers crossed*) I’ve been doing well so far with my sponsors! Another is blog hops…it makes me batty when bloggers do not return the visit/comment/follow when you put forth time and energy to keep with the “spirit” of the hop. It’s disappointing, really.

Do you have any advice for the readers entering your giveaway? newbie review bloggers?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to re-draw winners because readers don’t provide contact information! That totally bums me out! Newbie review bloggers really have to figure out how to set themselves apart from the thousands of other blogs out there. You want to design your blog well (so it’s visually appealing but also functional); stay active (and pro-active!) by posting regularly, networking, and answering e-mails; and find your “voice.” Your voice should be sincere and supportive, but just be YOU — that’s what your readers want and deserve!

Tell me some of your favourite blogs that you read.
