Welcome to Simply Stacie’s Saturday Featured Blog! If you would like your blog featured, please fill out this form.
Today I would like to welcome Anita from Cedar Hill Ranch! I had a chance to learn more about herblog and here’s what she had to say…
Please tell me about yourself.
I love interior design, antiquing, entertaining, cooking, sewing, faux finishing, and photography. I used to be an engineer, then I owned my own photography business, then I was a webmaster and newsletter editor for an intereior design store, and now I have enjoy our 30 acre Texas ranch and I love making it welcoming and beautiful. I am also a wife, and a mother to two girls, one with special needs.
Please tell me about your blog.
Cedar Hill Ranch is about Texas Living with a French accent. It’s about creating a relaxed lifestyle and home that is also graceful and beautiful, a place that embraces family and friends in a comfortable way while making them feel special and celebrated. I think of the French life being about family and friends in a beautiful setting, sitting around a outdoor table with good food and good conversation. Cedar Hill Ranch shows how to create a home that embraces your family and guests with interior design ideas, DIY projects, antiques, vintage dishes, great recipes, entertaining, and anything else I find interesting or helpful.
How did you get started?
Well, I was doing the website, newsletter editing and began a blog for the interior design store, and then decided I needed more time to devote to my family, but missed not having that creative outlet and I wasn’t doing my photgraphy business any more. I decided I wanted to write and take photographs and share my experiences with others where I got paid or not.
Who does your blog appeal to?
Readers who love interior design, and DIY, especially those that like shabby chic, and Country French design.
What direction do you see your blog going in the future?
Right now, my goal is to be one of the most beautiful, informational, and humourous blogs in my field. I am also working on converting an online portrait photography course into a manuscript that I would like to have published or sell as an ebook, it is basically portrait photography that anyone can do with the camera that they already have. I also want to create other how to ebooks on design and DIY topics. (Yes, I am aware that the blog is about interior design and the manuscript is about portrait photography. But that is just the first ebook as far as I am concerned, AND people who love beautiful homes love beautiful portraits, and with these easy steps they can usually do a fantastic job. The ebook is NOT for serious photographers, but for everyday people.) I see the website being also a clearing house for great tips and ideas submitted by other bloggers.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far with your blog?
Marketing of the blog is the biggest challenge. And I am realizing that I need to “kick it up a notch” on the photography and on the staging of photographs. I guess I was pretty suprised at the high level of quality photographs out there, and I need to step up to the plate and be more creative with my photography. I have rushed this part in the past. I am still learning about the blogging world, and I have so much more to learn.
What do you love about blogging?
I love the writing and the photography. The projects/ field trips/ purchases/ etc. are things I am doing any way, but the sharing of the fun with others I love. I love connecting with other like-minded people who don’t think I am crazy to have 5 sets of silver and 8 sets of dishes, but hey, who’s counting?
