Morning Mission at McDonalds #EqualCanada #CBias

Bridget loves McDonalds and asks to go their every weekend. This weekend I surprised her when she asked by saying, “Sure, get your coat on and let’s go!”.

We drove to the McDonalds in Greenwood, NS which is about a 15 minute drive from our house in Middleton. It’s the closest one to us and the one we always go to. Like Bridget, I also love McDonalds’ breakfasts. Their coffee is also really good.

Bridget ordered hotcakes (a.k.a. pancakes) and I ordered a large coffee with three cream and a Bacon n Egg Breakfast Sandwich- yum! I asked the girl at the counter if they carried Equal Sweetener because I was going to order a coffee-to-go for John. He likes his coffee sweet. She informed me that they did not offer Equal and only carried another brand of sweetener. I politely asked if I could speak with a manager. Christine, the manager, came over and I asked her if this location had plans to offer Equal as an option for customers. Christine said no, they didn’t have Equal but carried one other brand of sweetener. She said she would write it down and said they could possibly order Equal in for the restaurant. I thanked her and Bridget and I went and had a seat.

Equal is a low calorie sweetener that is appropriate for people with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. It can be used to replace sugar in recipes. Diabetes runs in John’s family so I wanted him to try out Equal in his coffee. He likes his coffee sweet and has gained quite a bit of weight in the last two years. I worry about his health all the time. So no McDonalds coffee for John this morning! Ah well, Bridget and I enjoyed our breakfast!

On our way out, I looked for a Customer Comment Card to fill out to mention Equal again in case Christine forgot to write it down. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find one.

Another thing I noticed is that they only had sugar in their condiments area! They didn’t even have any type of sweetener for customers!. I think McDonalds should at least have a sugar alternative available for customers who can’t eat sugar. I would love to see McDonalds give their customers more options and offer Equal in their restaurants!
