This weekend, I spent a few hours cleaning my house and believe me it needed it! Instead of my regular cleaners, I tried out two cleaners from iQ, a Canadian eco cleaner that uses tap water to get the job done. It’s actually pretty interesting product and unlike anything I’ve seen before.
This new eco-friendly line of household cleaners allows you to reduce plastic waste by 80%. How? It’s as simple as the packaging. The patented iQ REFill which contains your non-toxic cleaning concentrate is a basically just a small recyclable cartridge. You simply insert this cartridge into your spray bottle filled with tap water and insert the spray nozzle. The cleaning concentrate mixes with the tap water and you are ready to go.
When you run out, you don’t need to buy another bottle of cleaner and only need to purchase the REFill cartridge. With iQ cleaners, it’s less packaging and no need to ship millions of gallons of water across the continent.
I tried the Bathroom Cleaner in Nectarine Plum and the Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner in Papaya Mango. I found the scent very light and did not smell like my regular cleaners. In fact, it reminded me a little of cleaning with a body spray because it smelled good! I did my sink in the bathroom with the bathroom cleaner and it did a good job removing soap scum. The Floor Cleaner I used to spot clean where the dog had left dirt with his paws and then wiped it up. The directions on the floor cleaner say to spray the floor and the microfibre mop. I used it on my hardwood floors and it was fine. It can be used on wood, tile, stone or any surface that you can use water on.
The iQ line includes and All-Purpose Cleaner, Glass Cleaner, Bathroom Cleaner and Floor Cleaner. When you first purchase, buy the iQ Starter Kit which includes a spray bottle with cleaning solution and one REFill cartridge (retails $5.49), The replacement cartridges are about $2.49 each and you can buy them at Wal-mart and Loblaws.
In addition, I wanted to let you know about a contest that iQ is currently running called ” Who Cares About This Planet?”. They are challenging Canadians to create innovative, environmentally sustainable projects that will impact their community for a chance to win $5,000 to help them implement the project!
To enter, contestants need to create and upload a video of their idea to iQ’s Facebook page, where 10 finalists will be selected by an Advisory Committee. The 10 finalists will then share their videos across social networks, asking viewers to vote for their favorite project. Each vote will count towards $1 that will be awarded to the grand prize winner (up to $5,000). The video with the highest number of votes will receive the grand prize.
The contest is open to US & Canada (excluding Quebec) and ends on November 18, 2011. Visit the iQ Facebook page to enter.
One reader will win three iQ cleaners with REFill cartridges!
