Real Kids Shades Review & Giveaway (US & Can)

Living in Florida, I am passionate about protecting my children’s skin from the damaging effects of the sun. I realize now that I should be equally committed to protecting their eyes from the effects of the sun’s rays too. I recently learned about Star Pupils which is an educational partnership between Real Kids Shades® and Prevent Blindness America that brings awareness to the fact that “children are particularly susceptible to sun-related eye damage because they typically spend more time outdoors than adults.”

After discovering Real Kids Shades® I am reassured that I can indeed find sunglasses that block 100% of both UVA and UVB rays. Real Kids Shades® offer effective sun protection, stylish and comfortable styles and affordable prices that make it easier than ever to protect babies, toddlers and children up to age 12.

Though I have purchased sunglasses for my children in the past it did not meet the stringent guidelines for protective eyewear that I have found at Real Kids Shades®. The glasses were also not designed for comfort so my children would only wear the glasses for a few minutes and then take it off, refusing to put it back on. We do not have that problem with any of the sunglasses from Real Kids Shades® because my children love to wear all of the fun and functional styles.

From the “My First Shades” collection, my three year old son loves the Toddler Shades that are available in lots of bright colors and patterns. He does not like plastic or metal touching his ears and since these glasses have an adjustable neoprene® band it is comfortable and he will wear these the entire time he is outside without complaint. Once the Toddler Shades are in place it really stays put and they can even wear it while splashing in the surf at the beach since it is waterproof, rustproof and won’t fall off. These glasses are made of professional grade polycarbonate frames and lenses and I appreciate that it is so durable that it has really stood up to my 3, 4 and 6 year old children.

We are also very impressed with the Xtreme Sports sunglasses for active kids like my six year old son. He wears his adjustable mesh-lined neoprene® and impact resistant polycarbonate sunglasses while riding his bike, skateboarding and boogie boarding. Adam reports that the foam backing and light weight wrap around style is very comfortable and he loves that it has anti-fog vents so he doesn’t constantly have to wipe the glasses in order to see during his sports and activities. I appreciate that the glasses are shatterproof so I have peace of mind that if he falls while skateboarding or off his bike the glasses are not going to break into pieces while he is wearing it.

My daughter loves the Glide Shades in fashion colors that have rubber tipped temples for superb fit and comfort. I feel great that her eyes are protected and she feels confident that she looks super cute so she proudly sports these glasses everywhere.

My overall favorite glasses from Real Kids Shades are the Xtreme Elements. What makes these glasses so special? We live in Florida so in my opinion these are the ultimate protective glasses that work perfectly for all three of my children. Recently my son was in a panic because a big wave knocked off his Xtreme Elements glasses but he was quickly relieved when it floated in the water and he was quickly able to put the glasses back on. These glasses include the following features:

  • Elements loop lenses are made from shatterproof, impact-resistant polycarbonate.
  • Frames are foam-backed polycarbonate for comfort and durability.
  • The adjustable neoprene headband makes Xtreme Elements float.
  • Includes a MicroFiber sleeve to clean lenses and protect the shades.

I wanted to share this information that I read on the Real Kids Shades® website since I found it quite interesting. According to the American Academy of Opthamology, “Like your skin, your eyes never recover from UV exposure,” and, driving home the point, “exposure to bright sunlight increases the risk of developing cataracts, macular degeneration, and growths on the eye, including malignancies.” As a young child, I had 20/20 vision but after an active 38 years in the bright Florida sun, my own eyesight has steadily deteriorated over the years. I am so glad that I can rely on Real Kids Shades® to provide the highest quality glasses at affordable prices in an effort to protect their eyesight now and in the future. I am more than impressed with the selection of glasses from Real Kids Shades® and I am thrilled that I have finally found protective eyewear that my children will actually wear whenever they are outside.
