More Disney Favorites to Hit Theatres in 3D

The Lion King 3D brought in over 80 million at the domestic box office this week. (I didn’t get the chance to see it in theatres again, but I do have a copy of the Blu-ray release and will tell you guys all about that very soon.)

Due to the phenomenal success of The Lion King 3D, several more Disney and Pixar favorites will be coming to a theatre near you over the next few years in 3D format. Those movies are:

  • Beauty and the Beast January 13, 2012
  • Finding Nemo September 14, 2012
  • Monsters, Inc. January 18, 2013
  • The Little Mermaid September 13, 2013

Alan Bergman, the President of The Walt Disney Studios said, “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”

Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid are favorites from my own childhood, and I’m looking forward to the chance to see them again in theatres. I do remember that The Little Mermaid was in theatres for a limited time when I was 16, and by the time it is released again in 2013 my daughter may be old enough to enjoy seeing a beloved and timeless film in theatres.

Are you excited about this announcement from Walt Disney Studios? Which movies would you like to see return to the big screen in 3D?
