Book Review | The Picky Little Witch

Title: Picky Little Witch, The

Author: Elizabeth Brokamp

About the Book:

When Mama Witch concocts a special Halloween soup for her Little Witch, she adds eye of newt, spit of bug, and hair of slug. But Little Witch turns up her tiny nose at the culinary creation. She prefers such sticky sweets as butter toffee, caramel dandy, and cotton candy. Can these picky eaters come to a compromise? Complete with a recipe for Halloween soup, this fun read is a treat for children and parents alike.

My review:

I absolutely LOVE reading this children’s picture book by Elizabeth Brokamp because it is such a unique way to encourage children to try new foods. This book is absolutely hilarious and there were times that we all laughed out loud together while reading it. The fun illustrations by Marsha Riti successfully capture the charm of this story and my children are constantly asking me to read slower so that they could really look at the pictures on each page. As a mom, I really appreciate the smart plot twist at the end of the story that brought smiles to all of our faces. The recipe for Halloween Soup is so creative that my children have requested it to be served during our traditional spooky Halloween Eve family dinner and I just might surprise them with it. Now….let’s see if they will eat it! If you have a picky eater or are simply looking for great books for Halloween then I highly recommend The Picky Little Witch available through Pelican Publishing.
