Book Review | My Bonus Mom!
Author: Tami Butcher
This book is a must-have for any child who is gaining or already has a “bonus mom”. My own mother died giving birth to me and my father was suddenly a young widow with four children ages newborn, 10, 12 and 13. He remarried when I was 17 months old and my “bonus mom” means the world to me. She raised me as her own daughter and has been loving, supportive and is a mother to me in every sense of the word. I also understand that it was more difficult for two of my older siblings to accept her as their “bonus mom” because it was such a difficult time for them as they grieved the loss of our mom.
My Bonus Mom! written by Tami Butcher and illustrated by Feras Nouf is an excellent resource for families who are currently going through this transition and it effectively captures the emotions and fears that children may be experiencing when there is a bonus mom entering the family. I like how it shows children that you can enjoy spending time with your bonus mom while not being disloyal to your mom and that having a bonus mom can be a positive experience. I couldn’t agree with the author more because my mom, my siblings and I are living proof that it is possible. I give this book my highest recommendation for young children who will have their own “bonus mom”.
