Prom Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack Review
Title: Prom (Blu-ray / DVD Combo)
Release Date: August 30, 2011
On August 30th, 2011 you can bring home your very own copy of Disney’s Prom in a Blu-ray combo pack. Prom takes us through the high school ritual that no student wants to miss–regardless of whether he or she is a drama student, jock, geek, underdog, or over achiever.
Thanks to Nova, (Aimee Treegarden) her classmates can expect a truly enchanting prom. She is one of the school’s best and brightest, and she’s also a romantic. Her prom dream date Brandon (Jonathan Keltz) turns out to be less than romantic, however, but Nova goes along with his offer to carpool because this is the type of guy her parents would approve of. But then prom might have to be canceled when all the decorations are destroyed. Jesse Richter (Thomas McDonell) is the “bad boy”, and the principal volunteers him to help Nova create new decorations so that prom will not have to be called off. Nova has preconceived notions about Jesse, but after all the hours spending time with him after school, she sees a different side to him.
Lloyd (Nicholas Braun) waited until the last minute to find a date for prom. He comes up with several really big ways to ask different girls, but each backfires with hilarious results. Poor Lloyd! Will he ever find a date?
Lucas (Nolan Sotillo) is in love with Simone (Danielle Campbell), but she has her eyes on someone else. Too bad that someone else is taken. As their friendship grows stronger, Simone has a difficult choice to make.
These are just a few of the stories that make Prom such a fun movie to watch. I absolutely loved Lloyd’s story line, and I especially like Nicholas Braun, who is a bit more grown up now since his Sky High days.
What really made this movie stand out from all the others that revolve around prom or other high school rites of passage was how clean the movie was. Instead of focusing on partying or losing virginity, Prom is really all about finding yourself, second chances, and new beginnings. Jordan (Kylie Bunbury) is a really great example of this. She’s the prom queen type, but she’s actually pretty nice. There isn’t a single scene where she acts like a diva or is involved in a cat fight with another girl. I really admired her for the choices she made in regards to Tyler (DeVaughn Nixon), and I think she’s a great role model for teenage girls to look up to.
Prom is just a feel good type of movie; whenever I’m feeling a bit blue, this is the movie I want to watch.
My Top 5 Favorite Things About Prom:
- Jesse Richter (Nova, you are one lucky girl!!)
- The really awesome soundtrack
- Gorgeous dresses
- The creative ways the guys asked the girls to prom
The Prom Blu-ray/DVD combo also features some cool bonus features, including “Putting on Prom”, “Bloopers”, and a featurette called “Last Chance Lloyd’”.
Check out both the DVD and the Blu-ray disc because there are minor differences for which disc contains which bonus features.
“Putting on Prom” is really interesting to watch because we get to hear from the director, writer, and producer. The writer, Katie Wech, says that she is very much like Nova, and that her prom date was very much like Jesse. I loved getting to hear from the cast on their own prom experiences, so this is definitely a bonus feature you should not miss.
I always love watching the bloopers because it’s so fascinating to me to see how quickly people can switch back and forth between being in character to fudging their lines. I especially loved Aimee Treegarden’s (Nova) reactions every time that she made a mistake. So funny!
The deleted scenes are fun, too. I especially liked watching Jesse go tuxedo shopping, and seeing some of his history with Tyler.
The special features also include SEVEN music videos!!! Which is totally awesome, because I love the soundtrack in this movie. I will always love catchy pop tunes and boy bands. My favorites are Neon Trees’ “Surrender”, Nolan Sotillo’s “We Could be Anything”, and Moon’s “Time Stand”. Definitely worth watching!!
